Default Trying to get a Celica back on the road

Good evening! I'm hoping to find someone on here knowledgeable enough to help me get my 86 gt back on the road. Long story short, the engine blew close to 10 yrs ago and has since been reassembled. I was working on getting it all put back together a few years back and am trying to pick back up where I left off. One of my hurdles is that I am not sure if the correct head was put on the block. The connectors on the chassis harness that go to the switch start inject and the cooling fan switch do not seem to mate. I may just be overlooking something. My first question is, is there a quick way to tell what head, and what block is currently in the vehicle, as well as what head and block should match this chassis? Also, I am trying to get it assembled with used parts to see if it will run. It is somewhat difficult to track these cars down in junkyards, so I am trying to figure out what other cars may have interchangeable parts. Most importantly the distributor. Any help is much appreciated.

Your car has the 3S-FE engine, which was used in the Celica GT from 86-89 and the 4 cylinder Camry from 88-91. You can use the distributor from either of those. If you really wanted to, you can also use one from any 5S-FE engine with an internal coil, but it requires splicing wires, as the connectors are different. Or you can go all ridiculous like I did and use the early 5S distributor and add an external coil, but that brings a few other modifications... Anyway...

Identification of the head is a little trickier. If you could post pictures of the head and the connectors it would be helpful.

    The Coupe:
    - Custom SRI, external coil distributor conversion, MSD Blaster 2 coil, MSD 6a ignition, OBX 4-1 Header, 2.5" exhaust with Magnaflow muffler, Eibach springs, GT-S hub/rear disc conversion, Lots of shiny red engine paint, Ridiculously unnecessary 5" tach, Tons of fun useless switches and pretty glowing red lights, Currently sitting in the driveway with a snapped timing belt I'm too lazy to fix...
    The Hatch:
    - Custom SRI, External coil distributor conversion, Accel performance coil, Hayden transmission cooler, ASI dual-core aluminum ST165 radiator, Some shiny black engine paint, A few glowing red lights, Temporarily downgraded to daily driver status...

Thanks for the info. I got it fired up! There is a wire that is bolted to the passenger side strut tower as a ground and has a black connector on the end, but I can't find out where it is supposed to plug in. Does anyone know what this goes to?

That sounds like the wire grounding the block to the chasis. The other end attaches to the engine lift hook on the passenger front of the cylinder head.
