    Default Help with spacers

I read the wheel sizing thread and want to make sure I'm on target.....or not. I'm looking at these wheels (BBS SR 17x7.5, 5x100 wheels) at the link below. These should fit my '91 ST185, using 15mm spacer up front and 25mm Rear, correct? I have Megan coilovers and unfortunately, stock brakes. I'm struggling with the spacer issue. I'd like the wheels to be just shy of flush with the fenders. Thanks for any input.

You would be much better off with +35 on an 8" wheel.

You would still require the 25mm spacer in the rear, but would not require one on the front.

That's what concerned me. I really love this wheel (BBS SR), but don't think BBS makes it in a 17 x 8 with 5x100 pattern. Thanks for the input.

With that offset you won't get flush in the back, you can get flush in the front though. You should also get longer wheel studs for the front since those 15mm spacers are just plates.

They make a 17x8 w/ 42mm offset, but a 5x112 bolt pattern (https://products.vividracing.com/bbs...4386580241.php). So I'd need a spacer that has the correct thickness as well as making the wheel adaptable (5x112). Is this advisable and who makes/sells this type of spacer? Sorry for all the questions, I'm trying to avoid a f*cking disaster before throwing down money. Thanks again for any input.

Look for wheels marketed at the Subaru BRZ.

You do not want adapters. You want wheels that will bolt directly to your hub, without a spacer, without an adapter. That is the best, strongest way. Period. Anything else is snake oil.

If you can't find the wheel you want in the size/pattern/offset you want, pick a new wheel.

There are literally hundreds of threads on this exact matter spread throughout the site, with lots of information. That is how without thinking I can throw out that you want a 17x8 wheel with a +35 offset and a 25mm spacer in the rear to be flush. Because the guys that are flush are running that exact set-up.

You can mess with the numbers, but any higher of an offset and your are tucking your wheels, so at +42 offset on an 8" wheel you just tucked 7mm of wheel. At +48mm you just tucked 12mm of the tire, nearly half an inch. Adding a spacer will bring that out. Thus a 25mm spacer, on a +40 offset will change the wheel to a +15 offset. However the spacer, which is unavoidable on a widebody if you want flush and matching spec wheels, does add stress to the wheel bearing. It is negligible, but it does exist.
