Default How much time do you spend wrenching

I've put maybe 9,000 miles on my Celica since I bought it in May of 2006. I bought it with a blown motor and let it sit for a while. Rebuilt the motor and the auto transmission gave out so it sat for a while. Had the Trans rebuilt then the motor spun a rod bearing and it sat for a while. Then fixed it. I went to the police academy in 2008 and it sat in the shop until July of last year when I did the swap. Since then I have worked on it for one day just about every week to systematically restore it to the condition it is in now. Some weeks I spend both of my off days working on it. Now I pretty much have nothing left to do to the car besides general maintenance.

My truck doesn't give me any problems...yet. 1997 Mazda B2200 with 265,000 miles.

My wife's 2002 Mazda 626 has only needed the transmission replaced and wheel bearings. It has 150,000 miles on it.

My mother-n-law's Grand Am is a pile of junk. She bought it against my advice and I've worked on it regularly.

I occasionally have a friend who needs help with their car.

So I spend a fair amount of time working on cars. I like it for the most part. Beats paying someone to do it.

Right now my numbers are skewed. I have spent alot of time working on my rolla over the last 2 months, as well as the GF's and sisters car. 4 - 10 a week may be low cause there is alot of time to bury myself in the car on saturdays

Mine changes month to month, week to week to be honest.

My wife's 2002 Mazda 626 gives us virtually no :knocks on wood: problems. It's time for emissions though and the CEL is on. Same shit, p0421 warm up catlyst below threshold blah blah blah. I have the new o2 sensors to install this weekend. We'll see if that fixes it. If not, its a new pre-cat time. Either way it has lasted us 187k miles and keeps going. We're going to be trading it in next year hopefully for a new used Mazda.

My '89 GTS has been an extended project that keeps getting delayed and put on the back burner for one reason or another. Job situation, financial situation, time, room, etc. It's almost ready now though, just really minor things to get it up & running. Providing the transmisison is not fubared I'll be happy with that. I truely have no clue how much time and labor I have in that car.

My '87 GTS is a run of the mill one. Small things here and there (starter wiring, sunroof, etc). Now though I have a bearing or something going out so :sigh:

It's so hard to find time between getting this house together.
This summer though, I probably have at least 50 hours in, so thats good.

I spend more time working on my buddies R32 than my own car cause he's willing to drop more on mods...and I spend longer waiting for parts.
