Default How to: Oil cooler on a 7th gen

How to: Oil cooler on a 7th gen.

    You will need:

    Oil union (from japan 90402-28004)

Oil cooler retaining bolt (modified camry one) You have to run a die down the threads all the way to the oil cooler and cut off the excess.

Oil Cooler /w new o rings (mid 90's camry)
    4' of 1/2" heater hose
    4 clamps
    Some oil and coolant

    Special tools:
    12mm Allen socket
Large socket for the oil cooler bolt (30mm i think)
    3/4 -16 die
    Metal file
    Dremel

You can do this without draining the oil but you will lose a couple onces and some coolant.

    1. Remove the oil filter.

    2. Remove the 12mm allen bolt union the oil filter screwed to.

    3. Install the new oil union.

    4. Remove the intake manifold. (this requires a lot of unbolting)

    5. Install 2' of hose on either side of the oil cooler with clamps

    6. Install oil cooler loosely with modified bolt.

    7. Remove the clamps holding the rubber covers on the coolant pipes.

    8. Meassure and cut one hose at a time and install them on the pipes where the covers were with clamps. It doesnt matter which one goes where. just dont kink the coolant lines. I ran mine up by the AC compessor.

    9. Tighten the oil cooler down with the hoses sticking out as far left as they can go.

    10. Install intake manifold and oil filter.

    11. Top off oil and bleed coolant.

    Done

This thread is gayer than Richard Simmons singing a duet with Elton John in a bath house.

Sticky or not it has to be said. Huh huh, nut union.

Very nice work Bugs, I can see this being feasible on other engines as well.

    The Coupe:
    - Custom SRI, external coil distributor conversion, MSD Blaster 2 coil, MSD 6a ignition, OBX 4-1 Header, 2.5" exhaust with Magnaflow muffler, Eibach springs, GT-S hub/rear disc conversion, Lots of shiny red engine paint, Ridiculously unnecessary 5" tach, Tons of fun useless switches and pretty glowing red lights, Currently sitting in the driveway with a snapped timing belt I'm too lazy to fix...
    The Hatch:

Im guessing the first fill up maybe a couple ounces, its a tiny cooler. After that it wont take any more from a normal oil change because the cooler will retain some oil in it i believe.
