Default Startin problem also but alil differnt

Basically just got finished installing this engine again ,after doing main bearings, and wont start. It cranks, plugs are getting spark, and fuel pump is pumping juice. Wierd thing is the first time I cranked it a few times, the ground wire located driver side by engine mount by alternator on alternator bracket, grounded to frame, sparked and blew smoke. It melted plastic around wire. I taped it,wire brushed ends and replaced it. Still wont start, same issue and that same ground wire over heats. You can feel the wire hot!! Never came across this. Has anyone have an idea?
    Thanks

If it's hot, that says current that should be going elsewhere is running through it. Which says to check your other wiring.

Pictures of said wire would help.

Otherwise I'd say, the ground wire grounded to frame and blew smoke? or at least thats how I read it.

Transmission should be grounded to the frame. The bolt used for that strap goes to a screw driven into the sheet metal around the strut, in a mirror to the ground strap between the alternator and the chassis. Though the stock strap near the alternator actually grounded to the engine at the hoist hook, I don't expect that to make much difference.

    By the way, CAPS????
