This is not how my engine bay looks today, I have no replaced the stupid pod filter with the stock airfilterbox, I'm also going to remove the dump valve or replace it with a recirculating type and replace the 3 inch downpipe with a 2,5".

    looks nice and clean.

why are you going back to 2.5 inch on the downpipe ?

First of all my car has caught fire earlier because of to little clearance from things such as the alternatorcooling duct, The cooling duct caught fire after trying to race a BMW I first noticed a smell and when I stopped the car, flames came out of bonnet vent, luckily I was able too put out the fire with a bottle of water I had laying in the car my alternator also was destroyed because of the fire, luckily there was no damage too the car's paint or anything else, but I tel you my heart was beating like crazy after the fire was extinguished.

And second reason is that the rest of my exhaust system is 2,5 inch so when the exhaust flows trough the downpipe and suddenly have to squeze trough in to the 2,5 inch it hits an edge wich isn't good for the exhaust flow and probably will restrict the turbo from spooling properly.
So I think it wil help improving my power curve/ power band making it smoother.

I made the downpipe my self from some pipe's I had laying around an it looks something like this: http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/.../Bilde0285.jpg
It is not finished yet I have to weld in a flange for the lambda and sand down som welds.

hmm i, and alot of other people remove the airduct for the alternator when installing an aftermarket downpipe...thats because of the rubbing issue...thats maby a reason how you got your fire.

have you ever dyno'd your car?

If I were to have sex with an engine bay, yours would be my first pick. Very sexy.

Um yeah, your downpipe is badass. That thing looks very clean for a pieced together downpipe. Very impressed. How did you do the flange off the turbo?

This has been the best and most frustrating experience of my life. I thank my dad for all the help he has given me in this rare restoration. Now that the car is done, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Hi thanks, I'm not the one who made the Flange's, I Bought the flanges I needed on ebay because I dont have the right tools for making those flange's, and grinding them out will take days.
I chose to make the downpipe myself when there was just one company that offerd 2,5 inch downpipe for st185, besides it is nothing wich is more satisfying or rewarding than making something yourself, as long as it turn's out good of course.
but anyways as i was saying there was only one company making 2,5" downpipe that was KO-Racing, if I bought from them the downpipe included shipping would have cost me about 614us dollar's wich I think is a littile too pricy for a 30cm bent pipe wich you can make yourself for lets say max 50-60 usd.
maybe I wil try to make an new one later in stainless steel.

Anyway if you want the link for the flange I used i got it right here:
    Turbo flange: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyot...Q5fAccessories

the lower 3 bolt flange: http://cgi.ebay.com/MILD-STEEL-3-BOL...item2ea5f6f475

Mhm belive I have noticed that people remove the duct, nut you see I bought the car with the 3 inch downpipe It wasent rubbing it was just very close, I had thought about it earlier but the old owner had driven around with the downpipe so I thought that it probably was able to withstand the heat something it didn't when I pushed the car hard.
the reason why I want too keep the duct is that I want my car too look stock, I dont want any blue hoses or flashy stuff under the bonnet, Besides the police here in Norway thinks you car gets faster an 100HP more if you drive around with blue hoses.

No I have never dyno'd it, but I used a G-tech (Performance meter), and acording to that I'm making about 240HP and 354NM/261ft-lbs at flywheel an 201WHP and 290NM/213ft-lbs at 1,1kg/15,95psi of boost. (This is not as acurat as a dyno but it should be close)

    Awsome looking enginebay!
That carbon plate/emblem on the intercooler is that something you have made yourself? never seen it before but it looks awesome.

How much horsepower and torque are you making? the st165.

I purchased the IC cover from someone in the UK who made a batch way back when. I made the intake airbox myself though. ST165 power-wise, dyno'd at 234whp on a dyno dynamics, so take that with a grain of salt - in reality I should be making ~265whp on a dynojet. Looking for >300whp on a dynojet by the time everything is re-assembled (new cams, intake manifold, intercooler). Still very much limited by the ct20b turbo.

edit: to see how I did the airbox, I have some info in my project thread (link in signature)

It's surprising how good the 5s will still run with sticks leaves cardboard and little black jellybeans floating around in there.
