    Default The Rig

Bought this truck last November completely on impulse.

I was driving an 88' Celica GTS at the time but it had a new problem every week and I was getting sick of it. I decided to post it for sale, sold it and bought the 4Runner literally within two hours.

Ironically Edmonton got the biggest snowfall in 6 years a few weeks later.. Even with bald all season tires it plowed through over a foot of snow like nothing.

Some pictures of when I first bought it.

    After I got it I did a bunch of maintenance work/minor repairs;

    -Replaced all the ignition components.
    -Fixed the rear defrost.
    -Installed a CD deck.
    -Changed all the drivetrain fluids.
    -Changed engine oil and filter.
    -Undercoated the bottom.
    -Fixed a few rust spots.
-Replaced the rear coils and shocks. (No more ass sag.)
    -Ditched the running boards.

At that point it was starting to look a bit better..

A couple months later I replaced the tires with 33x10.5x15" BFG All Terrains.

In the summer I replaced all the intake silencing with a 3" pipe and made the airbox into a honeycomb.. Since then I picked up another intake box from the wrecker.

Forgot to take a picture of the stock intake so I stole this one for comparison.

All the crap I took out.

Cut out the muffler since it was all rusty and falling apart anyways.. Maybe not the best idea in hindsight. Its really not that loud, just sounds like a tractor.

Replaced it with a 2' piece of 2" straight pipe. Painted it with high heat paint and welded on a new tip that angles backwards. I'm planning on getting a Magnaflow muffler of some kid for it and putting a piece of straight pipe in the cat's place some day.. I think it would sound better.

Grabbed a second tow hook at the wrecker.

Replaced both front fenders. The paint doesn't match but I'd like to paint the whole truck this flat black some day.

    Before.

    After.

    Before.

    After.

Since then I tore off the rear bumper, front valance, spoiler thing in the back and the V6 emblem.

    Fixed most of the rust.

    Over the weekend I managed to get a bunch of shit done I've been putting off for a while;

    - Replaced warped front rotors.
    - Cleaned and repacked bearings.
    - Changed engine oil and filter.
    - Greased the speedometer cable and replaced a few dead bulbs in the gauge cluster. (Speedo used to screeaach unbelievably loud before.)
    - Rotated tires.
    - Diagnosed a few issues.

Here's a few recent pics I took the other day after a light snowfall.

I also got some cheap driving lights.. They were really easy to mount since there were already two holes in the bottom of the bumper for the front valance.

Nice to have since its dark most of the time during winter here.

Headlights only. I'll have to get a better picture of the actual lights in the day time when its not so cold.

    Headlights and driving lights.

Nifty little LED switch cleanly installed in the center console. I actually like the red glow it gives off between the seats.

That's it for now. Its getting late and photobuckets being a bitch.

I'll have to come back and upload some wheeling pics etc. later.

Hoping to build tube bumpers, skid plates, install an Aussie locker in the rear, maybe BJ spacers in the front.. We'll see, nothing too crazy.

    Thanks!

Been too cold lately to touch the car but I pieced together a 1" body lift kit for the truck this week.

    Total cost = $11.00.

Going to the shop to install it tomorrow.

Didn't get my body lift in last weekend since my windows were smashed out by random hoodlums.. Yesterday I managed to swing by my uncles shop and put it in.

I brought my camera and tripod to get some good before/after pics but my camera was dead..

So all I have is a few cellphone pics.

I'll have to find an old pic from the side and take another one from the same angle for a before/after.

Went out and got a few pictures today since I was bored.

On another note I've never had a new windshield before.. Its nice!

    Nice 4Runner and cool pics!

I love mine! Its a 3rd gen and in the 180k miles I have not had one failure to start. Its been a reliable workhorse and daily driver.

No matter the weather this truck has clawed its way through. I also love the ability to select RWD or 4WD.

Thanks man, I love that first pic!

Its a great combo, mid size SUV and a little sports car.. You get the best of both worlds.

Yeah, I just hope it doesn't happen again cause my new insurance company wont cover any damage to my vehicle because its too old apparently..

Ive taken it out a few times but not as much as I'd like.. I need to find more people to go with. Wheeling by yourself is downright dangerous.

A friend of mine has been looking for an older Toyota truck for a while now, once he finds one I'll be able to go a lot more with him. I'm really looking forward to off roading/camping/overlanding in the mountains next year!

When I went to Kelowna last summer I didn't drive. Man did I miss my truck over there.. More trails than you could shake a stick at.

This is a pic from an area in the city I went to a few times.. I'm not actually stuck of course.. Just temporarily lacking traction!

Thank you sir! Its slowly coming along!

So not much to report.. Been dealing with personal issues lately so I haven't had much time to tinker with my 'fleet'.

Damn dog broke the front of my subwoofer. He hasn't quite learned to stay down when hes back there so whenever I hit the brakes or gas he flops around.

I guess when I hit the brakes the other night he fell into it and broke the plastic bubble thing that says PUNCH..

Still works fine so I just fabbed a new cover with metal mesh.. Screen-door shit.

I actually think it looks better.

Old pic, in the back of my first car.

My quick fix. Not sure how much of an impact it will have on sound quality.. Its just a sub though. Bass is bass. I can't see it being a problem.

Other than that I've just been doing lots of overtime at work and trying to get my shit together.. Hopefully I make it out to the garage some time soon and accomplish something.

That would be my recovery box.. lol.

I keep my 20' Snatch Strap and D-shackles in there.

The blue thing behind my sub is a sleeping bag.. Always come prepared.

    Snatch strap in action..
