Thread: KONI insert

  1. #1

    Default KONI insert

It seems to me that there's no way in hell I should be able to put all of my weight on the actuator shaft of a KONI insert and have it collapse all the way. Especially if it is only 4 years old and has NEVER been out of the box, right? Holla if you back me up on this.

They absorb the shock of rapid movement, if you could compress the spring, I might be more concerned. I did however for giggles, crank my koni insert all the way to both settings, and was able to compress them rather far. Also, I was able to compress some new in box KYB stock replacement ones as well.

Granted I'm not super experienced with suspension products.

They SHOULD be able to collapse all the way. It's not a bump stop, it's a "damper". They control the rate of compression and rebound of the SPRINGS.

As Joey said, the dampeners control the speed of the spring action, not the range.

Well then I feel better. I just never thought that I should be able to compress it to the stop by hand. I know they're just a damper, but I was thinking of the difference in force my car can produce as opposed to myself. I just couldn't reconcile that in my mind.

If you could compress it all the way in less than a second, i would be concerned.
