    Default chem. sound deadener removal

    Does anyone know of a (safe) chemical that can be used to remove the sound deadener sprayed on the bottom of Celica's? The sound deadener comes off with a “putty knife”, but it will take forever to clean the whole underside of the car.

    Butane torch and a brass scraper works best...so you don't gouge the metal.

    Any chemical that *might* do the job is just going to be too caustic to work with.

    Dry ice...works REALLLY good..if u can find it use it..easiest way been there tried it on my buddies car

    There's at least that much interior sound deadening, and there's only like 4 panels in there. Hrmmm.....

    My question though is why? Am I the only one that likes a kind of quiet, comfortable ride?

    Idk, if it is going to be a full out rave car then I could see doing this.

    Right.... there's like 15-20lbs of sound deadening that's attached to the metal floor inside the car. The crap you have to chip off.

    Ive scraped all the sound deadening/rust proofing off the bottom of my white 165 but not to make it lighter. I did it to expose the rust that is hiding under it. After repairs were done I painted the bottom with por15. Let me tell you its the biggest pain laying down scraping/wire wheeling all that crap off.

    The inside sound deadening is much thicker and alot easier to chip off. I have used the dry ice method in the trunk and it works pretty good.

    Agreed. Its great stuff.

    When I had my fifth gen, I took the interior out and took the factory sound deadening out and replaced it with this stuff we had from when we put Pergo in our house, along with your every day carpet padding.

    That worked better and took out more noise. At least thats how I felt. I noticed a difference.


    I also like a quiet car. But, it depends on the car. Obviously if it were something performance like, or what not that would be great.

    My question is geared around auto-cross racing. The car is not street driven (that much) and because of the class the V6 puts me in, I need every advantage possible.

    I'm referring to the stuff sprayed to the underside of the car.
    Dry Ice won't work because I would have to hold it up to the car. Given the limited room and possibility of oil on the underside, I'd rather not use an open flame. Scrapping works but will just take a long time. Over time I’ll get it all off spending a few minutes here and there scrapping on it. I was hoping for something that would soften the stuff and not affect the metal.

    hell yeah man rave cars for the win
    try glow stick juice as a chemical come back and let us know if it works

    otherwise id go with dry ice some nice thick gloves it really doesnt take long to freeze it i did my whole interior like this and it worked great. maybe prop the dry ice with a jack
