Finally decided to stop putting this off, so me and celicaguy. started to get some prep work done this weekend. Started at 3, stopped at 530 and got quite a crapload done :) We are sanding the whole body except for the front and rear bumpers, the hood, and the spoiler for these pieces will not remain on the body. Here are some pictures of the progress:

And shes also now debadged :)

Tomorrow we are getting the rest of the sanding done, and then shot with some primer!
We also test fit my rear bumper on his car (same year and model) and absolutely NO luck for correct fitment. Rear bumper DEFINATELY needs to get extended to fit the GTS. Oh well, we're up for a challenge.

Cliffnotes: Sanding/Primering the car. Taking off the spoiler (comment on this idea) And getting bodykit fitment.

I bought a kit off ebay, and the rear need to be exteneded a little bit, the sides were good, and the front was just tight....i didnt end up using the front, and i chopped up the rear because i didnt like the vents....looks good!

How did you extend the rear, i know it sounds kind of stupid. But did you just cut the middle and fill it in with primer?

wow no bodywork at all? I envy you mang. I was doing bodywork all winter on mine. And may I suggest a product called super degooper to get the glue from the badges and moulding off. Also don't put the molding back on when you're done, it looks sexay that way

UPDATE: August 21st 2005

End of day 2 is now complete! We did not get the sanding complete or the car primered yet...main reason being, we put the sideskirts on instead!
It took some work, but all together it went very smooth. There are some gaps but the sides are being moulded after anyways so its no big of a deal. Here are some pictures from the beginning to the end of the day:

This is what we started off with at 930 AM this morning

First thing I decided to do was take off the rest of the spoiler.

While doing this, Neil started tackling the dents by sanding it down and then filling it with body filler.

Came out very good :)

After the dents were removed, we test fit my sideskirts, and Neil decided to take control, and throw them on the car. And after about 2 and a half hours of work..they were on!

You need to drop that factory trim on the doors if you're going to use that kit.

Im just curious considering I dont know anything about body work. How did you attatch the side skirts? Did you use a type of adhesive or did you use bolts? Also, what kind of primer are you guys using? Is it the ghetto spray can kind or the real air gun one? Nice job on the progress so far. I like it when people do their own stuff to their cars.

The only body mod I want to do to my car is add a side mr2 style vent. Even though it doesnt serve a purpose, I think it would look nice as hell. Thats an idea for you WhyteFifthGen

The trim on the doors makes it look sexy along with the front fender trims (:

Did u need to drill on your side skirts?

Yes, in order to bolt on the side skirts, we needed to drill holes through the side skirt, then through the body. We then help up the skirt and just simply took a rivet gun and rivetted them on. Its VERY solid, these side skirts dont move at all. I cant wait to start molding them

Update: August 22nd

Finally! The prep work is done! Unfortunately I forgot to bring my digital camera to celicaguy.'s house so I was unable to take any pictures throughout the day, but as soon as I got home I ran inside to get the camera and start taking pictures. I never knew how odd it would be to have so many people stare at a multi-color car. :lolhittin Anyways, enough stalling and here are the pictures..just cant wait to get the rest of the kit on

The end result was AMAZING! Neil did such an amazing job helping/teaching me how to do prep work, and did an even better job on spraying the car. During the primering it started to rain out unfortunately  But it was after the car had recieved its first spray, and lucky enough the primer immediately dried, which was a relief. Before she is garaged this winter hopefully me and him have another weekend where we can start moulding the sideskirts and possibly throw on the rear bumper. Post your comments and thanks for looking :D

I love having this guy in the same city as me :) Not only does he love his celica, but every other one out there. And I guess it helps mine is the same year/trim as his :D

I actually enjoy my focal wheels quite a bit, but if I repaint my car red again, I'm pretty sure I'll go with a white wheel, I always liked that combo.

Yes the sideskirts are made of fiberglass, but they are able to take some bending just not a tremendous ammount. They sat in the sun all day, so they just bolted right on nice and easy, no cracking at all.

Stay tuned for the next thread....Sideskirt Molding!! Coming to a site near you!

What type(s) of primer and paint are you using? enamel? acrylic? laquer? acrylic laquer? and whatever else I'm missing lol .. and what should I use for clearcoat? My stuff is acrylic laquer, I just dont have clear for it and the Lordco I went to, the guy phoned around and nobody really answered.
