View Full Version : Rough Idle

I previously was having some problems with hesitation, especially from a cold start. I had replaced the plugs. The car sat for a week, then at startup the car had a difficult time finding its idle. The car would even stall out. I tried cleaning the mass air flow sensor, but used brake cleaner on the whole thing.

I ended up getting an error code p505, idle control system.

I replaced the mass air flow sensor. I'm still getting periodic idle problems, kicking the check engine light. I haven't gotten the new code, but expect the same thing. The engine is no longer stalling out, like before. It will run rough for a few times, then it will be fine for three or four drives.

There isn't any more hesitation and the power seems to be smooth again.

Any suggestions?

My car is a 2000 toyota celica gts with 77000 miles.

I appreciate the help

Hmmf. What type of brake cleaner did you use? That could be something "not good" there. However, have you tried to disconnect the positive terminal from the battery and let the ECU reset itself?

My car is a GT 2001 with 104000 miles.. with no problems btw.. so, check the ECU.
