What is the final price for the hood? And it does match the factory hood really well, I am interested in getting one some time in the future.

So I have a question, are the Seibon CF CS Hoods not OEM spec?

Holly cow... nice.... I'm droolling all over the k/b.
How much for the hood, and how hard would it be to get the grill mesh?

Smaay
06-28-2005, 04:20 AM
the grill mesh is available from the dealer. i dont know how much it costs but its not that bad..the price for the hood now is 600...after i sell 10 the price will go up a little...that includes tax but not shipping..if you are local to So. Cal. then i can make arrangements for pickup or delivery and installation..

here is a pic of the Seibon hood..as you can tell the vents dont line up and are way too big and ugly..the center bulge is way too small and not in the right place

http://www.controlledinertia.com/Portals/0/399/CF%20hood5.JPG

and now again the correct hood and dimensions

What is the deal with the faux carbon finber piece on the end of the hood, it seems to be lacking from yours. Did you attempt to mold in into the actual hood itself, or just forget to re-install it in the pics? As for how it looks I am enthralled with it and if it were feasable for me to slap down $700 to get one, I would, as soon as you answer my question. ;) It looks much more accurate than the Seibon and I appreciate the fact that you set it next to a real CS/RC hood for us to see how closely it matched. Kudos.

the fake CF front is part of the mold... about 20 or so pounds lighter than the metal one and a few hundred $ cheeper than trying to get all the pieces of the stock metal one

That sucks about the Faux Carbon Fiber Lip, I really wish they hadn't done that. It detracts from the unity of the front end. Now the headlight eyelashes, the corners and the middle grill won't match with the lip on the hood. That right there is enough to turn me off of that hood as fast as the Seibon.

Back to dreaming about a factory hood then... :(

personally i really like the look, i was even 3rd on the list on money sent without seeing the hood. i am very glad i sighned up and again thanks to Smaay for sacrificing his original hood.

yep, cuz now the front part where the trim goes is ugly. imo.

Murgatroy
06-28-2005, 05:04 PM
I don't know, I keep looking at it in the pictures... I think it is just missing the trim... I guess even if it was molded in, you could carefully grind it down and put the real lip on it.

So the hood is FULL carbon fiber correct? And going for 600? If yes is the answer to both, I could be interested in picking one up asap.

Since everyone is so interested in picking up one of these hoods, anyone wanna sell their AT hood :D

I should be sending payment soon. Since most grill peices are faded anyway, using cf overlay should make them match the cf trim very well. Blue bat may have a simple solution for us. The grill peices are light, and so are the headlight covers so using cf overlay is an economical method for making it all match. I plan on painting my hood to match the car, and using cf overlay on the trim peices myself.

What you gonna do with your factory CS Hood Josh?

Plan on keeping it. I am getting the CF hood for racing. The Regular hood will be for daily driving and as an emergency spare.

the front lip has been incorporated into the hood as one piece..the sensus was that it would look better...mine is the prototype and yes it liiks like there is a bit of a lip there...that will be corected in the final hood...

Will it need hood pins?

It will not require hood pins...Fiber Images guarantees that the hood will not come apart and fly up and destroy your windshield...but you can always install them for more security...I plan on it

keep checking page one on the all-trac.net thread for new updates

Hey guys, I don't know what company you are all planning on ordering the cf Carlos Sainz hood from, but the company I ordered mine from sent me it without that carbon fiber lip. When I removed my stock hood, i just pulled off the original cf lip and put it on the new hood, blends in like it was stock! The company can be found at www.Raceonusa.com and the hood goes for $559.00 plus shipping. Here's the link: http://www.raceonusa.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=472

I'll post some pics of mine possibly after work today so you can see how it looks, WITH hood pins!

As mentioned above, these hoods are different from what is out rite now. The hood that you have doesnt have the exact dimensions as a stock CS hood. The hoods that smaay is showing us look proportional to the stock hoods.

Yeah the one you have is the ghey Seibon one. Sorry you wasted all that $$ on that :( This OEM spec hood looks awesome, I'll have to pick one up sometime!

Looks gay? Not at all guys. What is the noticeable difference between the original Carlos Sainz hood and the "ghey seibon" hood? I don't see enough to really be disappointed in my purchase. It even came with that "mini spoiler" that goes in the area where the wiper blades are, except there are no holes ready for it, but they still included it for those that want to install it. What I also liked was that it left the lip of the hood naked so the stock cf piece could be used, unlike the other cf hood shown above with the non-matching cf lip. I tried getting the original Carlos Sainz hood, but apparently Toyota can't order one unless there is a GT4 waiting for one here in the states. So, i had to go for the cf copy of the Carlos Sainz hood. Anyway, I'm very pleased with my choice of hood given the options I had at the time.

What people need to be making are carbon fiber headlight panels to match the freakin hood! That hood on any other color than black will look kinda incomplete

92DropTopCelica
07-28-2005, 05:18 AM
I agree, the harsh right angles around the headlights really break up the flow of the hood when it is carbon fiber. But luckily I have a black car, so it blends pretty well, check it out...

how about we get a list of people that want one of the f.i hoods so maybe with enough interest they will pull out the mold and make a few more!!!

B: F.I. refuses to make these again. Ever.

I think the dude knew the thread was old, I think he just wanted to see if there was enough interest to try and get the hood revived.

Why do they refuse to do them ever again? Did they lose their asses on them?

Production was more difficult than anticipated and turn around time was LONG. They said it was too much of a pita overall. No more.
