View Full Version : Weird Dist. cap problem

I have a 90 SE with the 4AFE motor.

Picked up a cap (with wires) and rotor at work, but it won't fit.

I work at PepBoys. Both the computer and the Borg Warner book list this as being the proper cap for this car. Went through the entire Toyota section and can't seem to find one that will work.

Measuring straight across the cap, it's about 4.5" across the top, the retangular portion comes out about 1.25" from the rounded portion. The others I looked at, and the listed one for the car, have a rectangular portion that only comes out about .75"

I suppose someone changed the distributor at some point? But now I don't know what to get and NEED a new cap!

How about getting an OEM cap and rotor.

Call the dealership.

You could also try one from an eary 90s geo prizm or toyota corolla.

I wonder if a 3SGTE distributor would fit in there.

If it would Id give one to you.

Jus tpurchase an entire rotor and cap with new wires from Pepboys. Get the whole assembly its only about $60 or sumthing.

What hes saying is he doesnt think it is the same dizzy. Maybe its out of a 7AFE.

Im saying buy a whole new distributor then. There is no reason why a 4afe distributor should not work in a 4afe. Unless he doesnt have a 4afe?

Cleaned up the motor this weekend. It is the correct 4afe distributor.
Found a couple other vehicles that use the same one (Geo Prizm for example).
Right now I'm thinking the Borg-Warner book is wrong and therefore, Pepboys computer too. Will check it out tomorrow night when I go to work, see if the Geo lists the same cap and wires
