I was sick of the yellowish bulbs I had in my bumper lights and corner lights so I decided to do something about it. Actually, I ordered some of these LED bulbs a while back for the corners but they ended up being too dull (only 1 LED in the bulb) and one of them died because it was exposed to rain and stuff for too long (while I was fixing the corner tab with expoxy).

So I made an order at Superbrightleds.com a few days ago:
2x 1157-W24 (wide angle) - has 24 LED's; 18 point straight out and 6 point out the sides
2x 921 (white)- a 168/194 wedge replacement with 9 LED's
2x WLED-6 (white)- a 168/194 wedge replacement with 6 LED's

I used the 1157's in the turns (still have 1156's from before that my gf ordered me for christmas but didn't fit-- I'll use those in the tails). The 921's went in the corners and the WLED-6's went above the license plate.

Pics. I apologize for the quality. I took them with my camera phone since the digital cam is dead:

One of the 1157's before I installed it.

With headlights on. Now all I need are bright non-yellow headlight bulbs to match. I may get some Polargs soon and those are really bright. I just don't know which bulb to order since there are different wattages and stuff.

License plate lights (had to sand the covers cause I just found out the paint shop oversprayed on them-- but it was a good idea anyhow because it scatters the light from the LED's better).

Thanks man. All I'm hoping is that I won't be pulled over for having blue lights on my car since they do have a hint of blue from being so intense. We'll soon find out.

You shouldnt get pulled over because technically those arent blue...
Get some diamond cut headlights and some 6500K blue light bulbs..

They sell those type LED's at our Wal-Mart

ACtually I've been pulled over because i had a hint of blue in my f'in license plate bulbs.

luckly the CT license plates are have a fade to them from blue to white, top to bottom.

cop drove behind me, turned off his lights....

then puleld me over.

I've found that there are some white LEDs that produce a blue-ish white, and some that produce a slightly warmer white (not yellow-ish, but nothing a cop could say was blue). A friend bought a bunch of these for her boat, but they didn't fit, so I'm going to ask if I can play with them.

I thought you can get pulled over if they're any color but yellow? Now that I know I can have em white, clear corners are looking more appealing to me. lol

Jinx, make sure to look up your state's laws regarding this. Some states are different than others but I made sure to check Florida laws before I went ahead with it.

That looks pretty nice. Did the 1157's plug right into the turns or did you have to splice them in?

Mike431635
06-11-2005, 08:33 PM
Nope, they plugged right in, hence the 1157 base.

You mean silverstars right?

Yes blue are illegal. White and amber are perfectly OK though. Personally I would go with white in the corners and maybe amber in the signals, since the people around here are idiots and can't even recognize an amber turn signal, I doubt they would see a white blinking light.

I think in all states you can't have blue or red lights on the front of the car, since those colors are reserved for police cars and emergency vehicles.

$45.66 including shipping. And they last forever.

Yeah, 1157's and 1156's are basically the exact same thing except the 56's have a single contact and 57's have dual contacts.

I have OSRAM Silverstars, which are the exact same thing as the Sylvanias but Euro-spec, which I heard was better quality. I don't know if there is any truth to that, but I found those on Ebay way back when I did the H4 conversion and couldn't find Sylvanias so I got them. I need a 5500k bulb, and Polarg sells a set for around $55.

Go there, click Bills & Laws, click the very bottom link (Laws of New York), and let your search begin :)

That is correct. However, some states have laws about how high or low certain colors/brightnesses can be on the vehicle. It's very stupid but being very detail-oriented (what you call a melancholy personality), I made sure I was within Florida's standards before doing it.

Looks great man. I know around here the cops are really strict on the lights. My friend got pulled over for having blue Tire Flies on his car. What kind of car? A 1991 Buick Park Avenue. I mean...that car resembles an emergency vehicle so well. On the topic of getting pulled over, I just pull into a business, get out and go in. Usually they keep going.

With these new L.E.D. Bulbs - Did it get rid of the normal "burn" that happens with regular bulbs? Meaning... is the transistion from normal stage-1 (on) to stage-2 (blink), clean? Like an LED? or does it still look like a normal bulb?

Mike431635
07-27-2005, 06:39 AM
It's a really sharp, clean blink. I don't know any other way to describe it. But it's quicker than a normal bulb, so you have to buy some of those resistor things off that site to wire in if you want them to blink at the stock rate.

It's pretty simple the LED bulbs that you order replace the stock ones. No modification is necessary to anything. So it's just changing the bulbs. The corner light and the turn signal need just one screw to remove, so it's very simple. It tells you in your owners manual if you still have it how to change all of them.

Mike431635
08-05-2005, 09:54 PM
Yeah it's very very simple. If you look on http://www.radcastro.com/Projects/Project+ST2GT4/default.aspx there should be a tutorial on replacing bumper lights and that will basically tell you what to do. Just unscrew the stock bulbs and screw in the LED bulbs.

pure hotness with that colour, actually very similar to what colour i wanted to get, however I decided against it because I have a red celica so my sills and engine bay would still be red while the rest would be a metallic grey, so i decided to get a more sharp red/
