ATS has been producing TD06 turbo kits for MR2's for about two years. Here are not so recent pics of our latest All-Trac/Celica version of the kit. The wastegate it routed to atmosphere and is positioned below the turbocharger. This kit fits ST185 through ST205. A ST165 kit is in the works, but will be about $200 more because it includes a new oil cooler setup. Anyway here are pics of our kit mocked up on a 3SGTE. Note: there is a MR2 BOV pipe on top (painted black) its in the same position as the All-Trac air-air intercooler. The compressor housing can be easily repostitioned using a pair of snap ring pliers to fit with a front mount intercooler setup.

The specs on the kit are:

NEW TD06 turbocharger from Mitsubitshi, 20G compressor wheel, H turbine wheel, 8cm turbine housing, oil AND water cooled.

Stainless steel 3" downpipe There is a short 2.5" section right after the turbo. Dyno tests against a full 3" version showed this to be the best design.

Tial 38mm external wastegate

All oil feed lines, drain lines, nuts, bolts necessary gaskets, etc are INCLUDED.

Dyno results (in an MR2) on stock motor with exhaust, Greddy IC, Walbro fuel pump, 550's, 93 Octane PUMP GAS and ATS Tuned Rom: 278 rwhp at .85 bar, 300 rwhp @ 1.05 bar.

With cams and full EMS we see ~330rwhp on pump gas (still on stock bottom end).

With cams, EMS and forged pistons we see conservatively 380whp on Race gas.

I've maxed this turbo out at 430+ rwhp at 2 bar on my personal car.

There have been a few upgrades since the above picture was taken. For example all of our welds are TIG. All of our pipe (dump tube, adaptor to WG flange, and downpipe) is 304 stainless steel.

Cost $2000.00

Thanks,

Aaron

^^

If and when my CT20b dies, this will likely be my turbo of choice. :)

Sounds like a great option for people with the 3sgte. Great Job. Can you post some updated pics at all?

nice kit!

but what kind of power can the tipical 3sgte owner expect without fuel or ecu upgrades? basically, if i buy your kit, bolt it on, what type of power can i expect out of the box?

art, i dont think youd wanna run this without bigger injectors at least..

From what I've seen on the mr2 boards, you *can* run this with stock ecu and fuel, but I don't think you're recommended to push it very hard.

The kit looks pretty sweet, is there any chance you could re-route the external wastegate tube back into the downpipe? That is, similar to the KORacing SB kit would be awesome. You can HPC coat these before shipping, correct? I'm on board for one of these as soon as I get my feet on the ground after my upcoming graduation.

I know this will be my next turbo after i max out the CT20B.

Aaron: what kinda costs would there be involved in shipping this unit to australia?

well, yeah, i know that to get everything out of it, you would need fuel upgrades, but there has got to be some boost level you can run with stock 440s and get some type of gain.

Absolutely. You can basically max out the 440s with little trouble. Probably at something like .8 bar or so. I would personally LOVE to run this thing at 1 bar all day long making 300whp.

You can expect a safe ~265whp with stock fuel and ECU.

Yes, we can reroute the wastegate, it is a $150 option though.

Cermaic Coating is also available, however with the stainless steel compontents only about 1% of customers have requested it.

Aussie shipping is $160. We can help with customs though.

I just shipped 2 kits to GB last week and 3 more ae going tomorrow.

Most of our testing shows the TD06 with a US spec ECU maxes out the stock fuel about 1 bar, those with tuned roms will max out stock fuel about .8 bar! It is an awesome turbo kit. You can drive it for years with stock fuel and no ill effects. It will be patiently waiting for you to up the boost. For example ScottM (and the previous owner) drove his MR2 for about 5 YEARS at 12 psi! The car was quick, but not crazy. Scott got on a Garrett kick and built a GT25 kit and sold the old, used TD06 kit to a customer. Boy was he pissed when the customer turned up the boost and made 351rwhp at 21 psi (stock cams, stock EXHAUST, stock intercooler, etc). Later Scott's GT25 died and he installed another TD06 kit, his car now makes ~40 more rwhp, 50+ more lb ft. of torque, and spools 500rpm faster than it did with the Garrett Ball Bearing turbo.

Sorry if I sound too enthusiastic ;-)

I would admit that the TD06 is probably the most well rounded upgrade turbo for the 3SGTE. The only other would be a GT series, 7071 or so that is ball bearing and might spool a couple RPM's sooner. Though the cost will go up, so the difference is very slim in my mind. Besides the fact that rom tune on the 3rd gen 540cc's on a TD06 is very capable turbo for a good mild street setup.

o yeah, in all honesty my car isnt desgned for balls out drag racing tbh, it used too much on track and sprints and so lag is of ut most importance, with the 60 time being below 4.5 seconds though, speed again isnt realy an issue, we are just looking to make the same power with a little less effort on the turbo side, but turbos over here are astronomical... even for suppliers
