i just purchased a GRP-A front bumper.
According to the dealer it is the last one in australia so the next person to order one has to wait for it to come from Japan (5weeks)
Its going to be fitted at the same time as the rebuilt engine i recently purchased...As is a front mount intercooler setup... The swap is going to be done from late June to early July. I cant wait to see how the new engine is going to feel. I'll post up pictures and stuff when its all done.
Hopefully everything goes well and I can get some decent tuning done to her, as well as see some figures.

Ok - before you go ahead and think it just bolts up - budget for the following things

The mesh inserts - the proper mounting bar - and the second support bar ..

this is where the main cost comes in if you want to do it PROPERLY ..

guys will say you can mount it to the standard bar with some modifying , which you can but from all ive read and seen - it will sag and not sit 100% right..

plus the alum mounting bar weighs about an 1/8th of what the stock mounting bar weighs , has heaps more space for the frontmount , and helps by reducing the cars overall front heavyness

if you want to see how its properly done your welcome to see mine - it cost alot of money but it fits perfectly - money well spent for the proper ending result ! ( and also see how ive mounted the frontmount first hand - im just a short drive down the road from melb )

( ps - i bought the last 2 before yours in oz - so you must have got the one they re ordered from japan ;)
( ps 2 - if you want some silicon bends to aid in tyour frontmount swap - see the other thread ive posted )

i've heard of people fitting the bar with out the reinforcement, and saying its fine.
as it is my front bar recieved a knock, so it doesnt sit perfect either. anyway one way or another its going to be fitted. i've got the important part, the rest i should be able to bodge if need be.

ps- why did you buy 2 front bars?

05-27-2005, 03:44 AM
i bought one for me and one for a friend ..

needed them secured then and there as i was getting quite a pretty price for the setup :)

and mate if you do this swap do it once, do it right ..

its only a few extra hundred on top of the job to get everything you need done correctly - and if you plan on doing it - being bodgy obviously isnt the way to go to achieve a good result ..

once again - your welcome to come see how mine was put together with the right gear, im not that far away

so there is 2 other support bars? what do they cost? more than 200bux = forget it.
i'll fit the bar first with no support bar. then depending on the result i may buy the support bars later down the track.
also dont your support bars interfere with the front mount at all?

mope - if it wasnt for the proper group a mounting bar that mounts the bumper to the car i wouldnt have been able to fit the cooler core o had as easily ..

the two are a large alum one that runs along the moddile of the bumper - then another smmaller one that ruins along the upper top lip of the bumper skin to give it strength and rigitigy

both indeed will be over 200 - the main bar alone costs as much as the skin last check - and the second reo bar was about 175 someting to that effect ..

no thanks.

05-31-2005, 03:20 AM
why? - half those carmate ones look shit - ive only seen 2 bodykits one the factory group panels that actually suit the lines of the st185 ..

Carmate specialises in rice kits, not practical

if i may ask, how much is the front groupA bar from toyota?

06-06-2005, 10:32 AM
the bar is $390 from toyota,
but it depends, coz i asked around and some toyota dealers quoted me as high as $440.

06-06-2005, 11:15 AM
thats about right - i got them a shde cheaper as i bought 2 but it wasnt all that much cheaper ..

the mounting BAR is about the same

the genuine grill pieces are around the 300 bucks mark and the top one isnt available anymore ( i had to make mine )

as a side note a Group a bonnet SKIN ALONE - no dressings or vent insert - is about 1500 - once all the trimmings are added your well over 2000 dollars to buy a new one

just thought you guys might like to know that , if you think its gunna be cheap!

06-06-2005, 11:24 AM
Oh i forgot - throw in a genuine groupA water sprayer kit for the heat exchanger - and your topping alot o cashies!

06-06-2005, 03:29 PM
the genuine grill pieces are around the 300 bucks mark and the top one isnt available anymore ( i had to make mine )

and we cant even tell the difference.
seriously though, some of the toyota prices are laughable. we had a good laugh with the spare parts guy about those grills.

Eh ? whats all this aboot ?

re top mesh you can tell but you haveta look closely - my painting effort was pretty ordinary - need to rip it out again + respray it
