OK, I'm getting ready to buy 4th gen 3SGTE swap.

As my luck usually runs, the pricing has gone up considerable in the past 6 months since I've decided this is what I want to do.

I'm looking at 3 different importers at the moment. I'm trying to stay around a $1000 shipped. Six months ago I was finding them for $850 to $900 delivered.

The three importers I'm looking at right now are:

JDM Engine Pro in L Habra, CA
JDM Engine PA in Philly
JDM Engine Depot in Belleville, NJ

Ebay reviews aren't bad for all three. Google has some negative reviews for JDM Engine Depot but mostly good. Engine Pro is showing good in Google review but both have some negative reviews on some of the forums, mostly Honda forums. Engine PA I haven't had a chance to check into yet.

Anybody have experiences with any of these shops? Anybody use anyone else lately that was reasonable cost and had good engines? Let me know.

The first gen4 I bought I got from Venus Auto up in Sacramento. No complaints. They've been hit & miss on having them in stock though. Next one I'm getting is from an importer that a fellow alltrac owner got his from here in town. He just threw it in his car and beat the shit out of it. They're right around a grand there too.

Sorry -- mobile post.

The first company is the one that Sean bought his from and just drove it (didn't replace a damn thing on the motor). They're the ones I'll be getting mine through when that time comes.

i'll vouch for this company. I got mine from them. i was skeptical about them cuz i found their ad on craigslist. they are in the next city over so i decided to go pay them a visit. had a huge warehouse full of JDM motors. Real nice guys. it was run by a father and son. I took a picture next to my motor. the guy delivered it to me in Tucson AZ for $150 in his own personal truck the very next day.

I'd just buy it from Prime MR2. They seem to have plenty of them in stock, and they swap probably 1 or 2 a week into MR2's. Surely they sell just the engine.

In my experience they bump the cost an additional 100-200 bux. The alltrac guy here said the same thing. They buy the motors cheap (800-900 as they typically sell) and then flip them for 1000-1100. It's the business they're in -- but I'd rather save the couple hundred and buy from the importer directly.

It's worth $200 extra to know everything will be there, all the electronics etc. Someone who actually knows the engines is looking at it and saying yup this one is good to go.

Agreed.

I can just drive to the importer 10 minutes away and do the same thing.

NAD auto here in Atlanta is where I bought Princess' clip. I could easily go look at one.
