If you had the means, capital, not perfect All Trac. Would you make, if not would you respect a WRC GT4 replica? Yes. No.

I guess my question is Why? In a lot of states that wouldn't be road legal.

I think it'd be cool though. I wouldn't want a full blown replica but I would do a Princess style 165 build with graphics and light bar.

Who would do such a thing?

I've wondered about the legality for a LONG time. And searched on it. Why would it be illegal in any state? You see those dumb Dale E Jr cars all the time. Though those are factory made and less loud then a WRC would be. But you see copywrited logos on privately owned cars everywhere.

A stock car with decals on it is a lot different than a race car on the street.

A lot.

Even if it were an actual rally car it would still be street legal because they have to be. It's in the rules. They transit on public roads with civilian traffic during a race. But in this case, enthusiast replica, yes just a stock street car with logos all over it. I've read several sites found with "street legal car" etc and all they mention are standard safety equipment, bumper height, etc. The wraps that businesses put on their fleet vehicles these day are the loudest things on the road. So looks must not have anything to do with it. I could put mod part stickers all over a car and that would be legal so I guess I answered my own question. :)

You realize that Princess is in full WRC livery, right? Maybe it wasn't clearly stated in this thread, though it was alluded to.

I guess I still don't understand. You can paint your car however you want, all the decals or stickers you can imagine. The legality issues come when you make modifications that render it illegal for the street. In some places that can be as simple as removing the EGR. In others you have to go extreme, no lights, no windshield, ect.

Stickers would have no bearing on that.

I had a couple of these "race" me and stare for about 30 feet to show me how badass they are because I had rally stickers on my rusted out Celica GT. To some "people" stickers = racecar.

I typed out the entire actual whigger words and then decided against it. Never heard the combo "whiggers" before so when and found a pic instead. Yes they were total whiggers. Neck chains, jerseys and all!

How about this? Whats it called when a douche fucker is next to you in moving traffic gunning there engine and surging forward next to you like they are awesome but in reality are acting like a total Jackass? Is there a word for that?

So the pics The Captain posted, that is your car right? Who did the painting? I'm planning on dropping off at Maaco next week and believe me I have no choice. No restoration place will touch it unless they can charge me $15k for full resto. But I am getting the top level package at Maaco with warranty.

Murgatroy

You won't get that level quality from MAACO. I an sure John spent several hundred hours in prep and finishing to get his paint where it was, without factoring in the cost of a high quality paint job.

Yeah I know. All I want is a shiny race car replica. Not a mirror finish show car. Ive dreamed about this project for almost 10 years. Im finally at a point where Im not dieing of cancer, have a job, have nothing else to spend money on other than my cars.

Facime
10-21-2015, 07:39 PM
there really is nothing wrong with a maaco paint job, but they will cut corners so its in your best interest to do most of the prep yourself and then hold them accountable for quality after they turn it over to you. Also, you can do your own color sanding and buffing afterwards to really bring it up in standard.

I even removed the glass when Princess was painted. I drove it to the body shop wearing a motorcycle helmet LOL! No windshield! I got the decals from the UK. Took me two days to install using the wet method. Some errors but overall looks good. Nice thing? Totally removable.

My car is in paint now for few weeks but they will only do the stripes. And I'm doing the full color version. So I will have to get decals made. How did you mock up your "logos" to paint them or did you use decals? Either way do you have any picture files of the logos themselves that are the right sizes? Willing to share them? If so I could have the decals done while waiting for the car instead of manually measuring after get the car back. And we got a break on weather again this year but winter will be here any day.

Im still confused who owns the Princess rally paint car??? Is it yours? Do you have any info on fonts or picture files for mocking the sponsors and logos? Thanks.

Actually This may be better than average maaco. The owner is kinda friends and raced with my best freinds brother and has painted a couple race cars for him. I'm paying for the extra work above the average top level package, and he said he would address peeling issues, smooth surfaces that need it, and even remove the spoiler and paint underneath and align the fenders I never got around to doing. it sounds way above and beyond the average maaco job. Only couple more weeks to find out!

So the final question then, You must have did the logos, "castrol" by hand then?

fussellbug

Read a few forum threads and you'll see that the decals used on Princess were purchased pre-cut from a company in England. He chose to use the original castrol markings in custom colors that look great on Princess's black paint.
