Hey guys, I need to get to the back of the ac control panel, ( the rear screen heater switch has disappeared inside) presumably this means taking the instrument pod off, does anyone have the info for this ?

It should pull up from the ring around the shift boot. Pull the shift knob off, lift the ring around the shift boot. That would clear out underneath the cup holder where there should be some screws. There may also be screws underneath the knobs for AC controls. If memory serves correctly, there may be another screw up on the top by the clock under the dash? I'm going back like a decade and a half for that though. Should all be phillips head screws, though.

I don't think you need to take the centre console out. I think you need to take the instrument cluster surround out? I should know this since I really need to put mine back together...

Instrument cluster surround, but not the cluster itself. The HVAC unit is attached to the cluster surround, from the back.

You'll have to unbolt the trim panel below the steering wheel (technically you could just remove the screws at the top, but then it's being held on by one plastic tab at the bottom which is just asking it to break). I'll assume you know how to do that. The instrument cluster surround is held on via a screw under the HVAC controls, two under the top of the cowl over the guages, and several screws across its bottom edge including a couple under a cover beow the ignition. You'll also need to undo the fog light switch connector, pop the knob off of the vent dampener, and undo the nut holding the illumination adjuster. I find it helps to run the key in and out of the ignition to let you drop the steering wheel to its lowest point before trying to squeeze the surround loose from the dash.

The HVAC control is actually the most difficult part to remove since it has several connectors behind it. The electrical connectors can be popped loose with a long flathead screwdriver, but there are two cables which have to be unhooked at the far end to remove the surround.

The blue cable terminates in the engine bay, near the middle of the firewall at the top. I suggest setting the temperature to one extreme or the other to make reassembly in the correct position easier. Pop the clamp loose with a flathead screwdriver and pull the cable's eyering off of the post.

The black cable loops down into the centre console. You don't have to remove anything to access it, however. By pulling the carpet off of the velcro near the gas pedal you'll be able to see the cable. Again, pop the clamp loose and remove the cable from its post. For this one, I suggest attaching a piece of string to the cable before you pull the HVAC cluster out of the dash, so that you have something to guide the cable back into place. Unlike the blue cable, there's no guide tube.

Once the electrical connectors and cables are loose, you can pull the entire instrument cluster surround out of the dash.

ST185 should be auto climate, so won't have the blue/red cable to deal with.

All the screws up to that point are the same. However, I can't recall perfectly where they all are currently.
