got the new seals, oil pump, water pump, in the replacement motor. It looks like its pretty clean for 200k miles. that dude (who shall remain nameless) said he always ran Amsoil. he had it for the last 100k, did see some evidence that maybe the previous owner ran Penzoil at times, but its not too bad. I can see the MLS headgasket and the bearings n shit seem good. so I'm happy enough. ...as long as I don't suddenly need an alternator any time soon

Lucky me I have a friend from back when we were kids in the old neighborhood helping me out.

but you guys will probably be more interested in the other stuff he does. Normally he wont touch anything newer than '75. he's making an exception for me :)
He's got some partner with connections and capital who thinks he's the Grease Monkey and just keeps finding these classic cars, brings them to Eric for a little fixing up and then flips them real quick for good money.
here's some of what he's had lately

Got it buttoned up today, but going to let it heat up and cool down a couple times then go out and test it to be sure everything is super cool before I take it home.
I am real glad I decided to get a whole new motor instead of trying to do a head gasket on that old one. it was just the blue paint pen marks on that head, and I knew it came from PicknPull and there was no telling how bad it was.
Well, when we got the valve cover off of it there was more metal chips in there than you'd find on the floor around the drill press in a machine shop. just nasty smelling, and best of all was somebody had used Sillicone to try and repair the cam seal. :slap:

So I just unbolted the head and all the other aluminum pieces and will take it to the scrap metal for gas money. Kept the cams in case I get to do a regrind in the future.
He took my injen intake pipe and cut it to fit the stock airbox. because my duct was ripped, I had some super bad gorilla tape on it. So at least I got some use out of the pipe even though the filter was ruined. Ill just get a Spector filter to fit my stock air box. I'd rather have the factory cold air setup than that sill short-ram BS anyway.

and the low budget ball joints I got from rockauto, moog cheap line for $8.66 ea, are just as good as the ones you'd pay $38 for at oriely. if I get 3 years out of them i'll be happy enough.

You just did a straight 5s swap, right?

ya its just another, cleaner, better maintained, 5sfe. The kid I bought the car from had posters of Vin Diesel on his wall and ran it into the ground. His uncle put another motor in it and sold it to me, but the motor was trash. I kept the other cams incase I get todo a cam regrind in the future. I just wanted stock dependability for the next 3 years. then maybe ill build a race car.

that's about all that Injen short-ram is good for :D
I'll get a good filter for the stock box and it'll be great.

Realistically there is no power increase from a short ram, so you are in good shape using it like that.

The big reason folks run them is the sound. With the open filter you get the loud sucking sound of the engine gulping air.

I agree, I'd rather have the stock cold-air setup than that silly heat shield that's going to suck in hot air and sound cool.
this is actually what I planned to do with it in the first place. I just wasn't gonna tell that asshole that after he dicked me on the alternator.

also I got me one of these sporty shifter boots.
Chick on 6gc forum makes these by hand for only $19 shipped. She does them for 6th gens but I bet if you gave her the dimensions you want she could make em for anything else too.

she also does e-brake boots.

looks so much better than the old shitty one. the stock one was shit brown boot and handle. With a black interior? I guess it was supposed to look like leather.

Put some heat wrap on that intake pipe. Drawing in the cool air from the stock air box won't help if it's getting warmed up in that tube.

Shift boot looks legit. May have to hit her up.

That's a good use for the Injen intake.

yes, and overall I'm happy with the motor itself. It was clean and well taken care of.
