View Full Version : Passenger door wouldn't open

I ran into this a couple of week's ago. I don't have passengers often so the door isn't opened that much.

I notice a couple of month's ago that one do it wouldn't open but a couple of days later I checked it again and it was fine. Figured it was something the central locking system. Earlier this month, wouldn't open at all.

I did a Google search and come to finding out this looks like it is a semi common problem. The latch rusts inside the housing and while the rods and levers will move, the latch won't open.

If you roll the window down, you can see the top of the latch and where the rods attach. I sprayed the hell out of it PB Blaster and worked the handles to get it down through the latch. After about 15 minutes, the door opened. I then lubed the hell out it to try to help prevent this from happening again.

This might not work for everybody but it sure beats the hell out of trying to pull the door panel from the inside.:runaway:

Thats really all you can do man. Good job.

I'm glad that did it. I thought I was going to have to try to get that panel off and that didn't look like any fun at all.

I would still pull the panel and install new plastic grommet things (the ones that hold the "L" end of the actuator rods and lock rod.
Then I would liberally White Lithium grease that thing like a pig. No more problems. ;)

Tell your passengers that your car secretly thinks it is the General Lee. Roll down the window and tell them to "Duke boys it in!"
Problem solved, 'nuff said.

Depending on how you look at, luckily I don't have many passengers so it was much of an issue there. LOL

Oh hai Mike.... ;)

I have had to Duke Boy it to get into a car.

It is not something you want to do everyday.

And hood sliding is not awesome either, as the rivets in your skin tight Levi's can scratch the hell out of your car.

How else are you supposed to make the moonshine deliveries?

I'd just tell folks, "If she doesn't open, that means she doesn't want you in there. Which means I'll drive your car."

I tell that to my wife too.
