I shifted from 3rd to 4th today, and it took me a minute to realize that I wasn't clutching. And I didn't notice from feel. So when I got hom i put it in second and let the clutch out with the break down, and it didn't die. Soooo, I'm looking for a new clutch as possibly flywheel for my 2001 GTS. It's my daily driver, but I do use it for some spirited fun from time to time.

Anyone have opinions? All of my Corolla and Matrix Xrs friends run the exedy kit, but I thought I would solicit the opinions of the three other members here with a 7th gen :)

Using a stage 2 competition clutch on the Spyder now. It feels like stock did and don't really have any complaints, it holds the power just fine in a car with a proper drivetrain arrangement (PS, I don't have a 7th gen, so nyah!) :hehe:

I had an ACT puck unsprung and then switched the disc out to a street series sprung disc. It held the power fine still. Granted that was on a 4th gen with a Frankenstein in it..

+1 on the Exedy for stock feel and even for spirited driving on a stock or close to it 7th gen. Act is a bit more expensive and Ive heard good things about them, but I think it would kind of be wasted on a stock '01

The 01 has a higher red line and Rev limiter than the later models.

its still stock though right (or nothing more than an intake/exhaust)? Exedy will meet or exceed stock specs and give a completely stock feel. Don't buy some cheap Chinese 6 puck crap off ebay...whatever you do.

The All Trac has an Exedy clutch in it. I've had no problem with it in the years I've had the car. I'd use one again.

I'll be honest, I just got another stock one when I switched out the trans, just cause it is a spirited daily that's barely above stock. As such I defer judgement.

No it doesnt.

Early 00s had the highest redline and the lowest lift engagement point if anything. But the magic number to stay away from is the 02s, They had the lower redline.

As for clutches, anything will be fine. The 7th gen crowd seems to really like the stage1 Southbends. That car doesnt have shit for torque, so it doesnt need anything special on the clutch. Hell, stock is fine for most people honestly. It just doesnt like being slipped without stinking.

I thought 02+ had the lowered nerfed lift, not just 02?

No, the nerfed lift was only for 02. Im pretty sure they fixed it in the later ones. It may have been 02-03, but Im pretty sure the later models had the higher redline.

early 00 had 6000 lift engagement
01-05 has lift at 6300
02 only had 7800 rpm redline
all other redlines are ~8350

i wrote a guide on how to replace the clutch.

the 02's did have the lower redline but its easily fixed with an 00-01 ECU swap or Power FC.

Need the ECU and the knock sensor.
