$1.56/L here, 91 octane in Kelowna, BC. I think that works out to $4.13/gal but I could be wrong.

At 3.78541 L per gallon, it's $5.905 per gallon. And that's before the exchange rate is factored in, which makes it US$5.55/gallon.

B.C. has a carbon tax, which is designed to be revenue-neutral by having a tax credit which matches the carbon tax revenue. The idea is to leave people with the same amount of income, but make gasoline more expensive. That way if you don't change your habits, you don't notice any difference, but since people respond to prices, they'll buy less gas (leading to lower carbon emissions) and have more money available elsewhere to spend. Great if you don't spend a lot on things which use petroleum, or you can reduce your consumption, not so good if you're a big consumer (e.g. you take a lot of buses or have an oil furnace) and don't want to change your habits or invest in energy efficiency. The annoying part is our percent-based sales tax is calculated based upon the price of the gas plus the price of the fuel taxes, so a $0.01/L fuel tax becomes 1.07 cents at the pump.

In any case, in the Lower Mainland we've been hovering between $1.48 and $1.51 per litre for the last few weeks, or about US$5.26-5.37 per gallon.

There's a reason I regularly make the 30 km run across the border to fill up. The border stations keep a Canadian price on the boards, last time I was there it was at C$1.17/L.

Interesting, I was down in Mission yesterday and they had the same base price as Kelowna, $1.35.9 for 87, but out in Abbotsford or Chilliwack it was $1.39.9ish and Hope was $1.37.9

Metro Vancouver has its own gas taxes, which combined with the tax-on-tax effect of the GST produces that price differential. Just filled up in Point Roberts, at C$1.32/L or US$4.91/gal. US$64.57 into the tank...

AU$1.57 per L here for 91, but the Pulsar needs 95 at $1.67... That's about US $5.87/gal.

(I think Australia just displays the RON, not the (RON+MON)/2 that is displayed in the US/Canada so the ratings aren't directly comparable).

We're look at $3.69-3.79 for unleaded. Midgrade and Premium depend on the station. Some still follow the old method of 0.10 differentials, some have gone to 0.15, others are just stupid. I stopped at an Exxon over the weekend to put some midgrade in the IS. Regular was 3.73. Midgrade was 4.04 and premium was 4.20 or so. Needless to say, I won't be buying gas there again anytime soon.

Galcobar

In Canada the differential used to be $0.10 per litre (so, about what you described as "just stupid") and it's now typically at $0.15 per litre ($0.57 per gallon).

Nitro_Alltrac

The differentials here, at least in the east, have been $0.10 for a long time. When I moved to Texas, I started seeing the $0.15 differential. I'm seeing it more here in WV now but that Exxon station was at the point of price gouging.

We hopped up to $2.99 because there was a refinery problem somewhere in Indiana. You know, because it MIGHT cause a problem down the road. It was $2.11 when I was down in Louisiana last week. I come home to higher prices. Sigh...oh well. At least my Civic gets 42MPG.

VikingJZ

Prices are still holding around $2,80 something thanks to that refinery mishap. I'm sure they'll milk this one as long as possible.

With record low oil barrel trading, the prices at the pump are still too high based on the price per oil. We were down to about $2.11 here I think when I was in Louisiana, but that's gone up.

I mean, it's better than $4.25 a gallon like it was a few years back, but still. I guess I shouldn't complain. My Civic gets 40MPG and fills up for about $25 from the low fuel light coming on.

I fill up on the reserve near me for around $1.15 - $1.25 per liter for premium 91-94 octane. Not sure what that is in Murrican.

I usually make it home with about 3/4 of a tank left. There is not HTA enforcement on the reserve and a ton of hilly twisty roads ....

MCcelica
08-28-2015, 06:25 PM

Neither of us do either. There were at least two conversions to make, and none of us feel like doing that. Lol

If we round it off it's about 4 liters to the gallon, so roughly $5CAD per gallon, and the Canadian dollar is roughly .75 American so, very roughly 3.75 a gallon American.
