cooling fan #1 is always on when ignition is on

Check the temp switch on the coolant neck (by the distributor). The fail safe is for it to be constant on with key to ignition. Keeps the engine safe from overheating.

Yup.

When we put the later model engine in Chaos it didn't have a spot for this switch, so we left it unhooked and the fan runs full time. It wasn't an issue for the two years that engine lasted.

the plug on the bottom of the radiator will do the same thing.
