Why are alltrac's so ridiculously priced? I know the rarity of them and the prestigious past, but they are still a 20+ year old celica. I've found a what seems to be a clean 90 pretty close to me (few hours away) but I just can't justify the over $9k price for it as much as I want one, in what seems like a pretty much stock unmolested trac. .......help me I just don't get it.

It's just that people think that just because they have a rare car, they have a valuable car.

Honestly though, these cars are coming up on being genuine collectables. Lots of people who grew up in the late 70's - 80's had them as first cars. Since at the time, a lot of people didn't respect their Toyotas, lots of them have succombed to rust, and now people are looking for them as collector cars instead of transportation, driving up the price of any decent examples.

Thats my opinion.

I just don't understand but I guess the same thing happen to American muscle cars from the 50 ' s 60 ' s and 70's.

The rarity of the car definitely drives the price up, and I think us Celica guys do also.I mean, when I bought my Alltrac I was looking exclusively for an Alltrac (well, only because a MKIV Supra with the equipment I wanted was well out of my price range), and I paid $4500 for a car with expired stickers, a body kit I didn't like, and a host of mechanical issues; I accepted this poorly because it was a 93 Alltrac.

I would like to have a ballpark idea of how many are actually left in the states. There was one on craigslist in town for 8,000. It was only up for about a month and it was gone. I obviously don't know what he got for it but I would assume close to that because he never lowered his price in the add and it never said OBO.

I remember when you could get a First Gen Camaros and Mustangs for $2k. Chevelles, Roadrunners, etc... They were all cheap. I don't think I EVER paid over $1500 for a car until Chaos, and that was fifteen years ago.

I toyed with the idea of selling my 90 all trac last year. I even got 2 replies from NY that seemed really interested. My car was a neglegted pile that I had to put back together, I got about 4-5k$ in it and I wouldnt expect to get more that $3k. I do want to keep it tho cause I love driving it tho I dont need it. I did a JDM engine/trans swap and thought maybe one day I could rebuild the USDM engine/trans and supe it up but thatll never happen. I might be able to find a local buyer for old engine/trans but I dont want some puke kid coming back to me if its cracked or something else. So now I thought maybe strip it and sell the parts online and get scrap for the block. I logged in tonight just to post and ask about the viability of just that. It would be a lot of work to take the damn thing apart but should see at least a few bucks for the turbo, aluminum flywheel, all accessories, intake, misc bits, etc. Isnt the head aluminum??
