just curious if anyone here has ever had to replace their intake & exhaust valves.

if yes, do the 3SGTE valves work without modification?

I'm fairly certain both valves are the same size if you go with the same gen engine, i.e. gen 1 3sge to gen 1 3sgte. 33.5mm is the intake and 29mm exhaust. Nothing different about them.

Check this out. Link (http://www.st162.net/forum/showthread.php?2622-Basic-3sge-info).

thanks for the info! any chance there are specs on the length of the valves and diameter of the valve shaft? i just want to make sure that i buy the correct valves...

already have a full set of Ferrea Competition Valves for a 3SGE that are useless and i have to attempt to return them. so yeah.

If you have a Chilton or Haynes book it will give the service specs of the valves length and diameter. My book is 2000+ miles away or I'd look for you.

Whats wrong with the Ferrea valves?

they are 6mm too long and quite a bit wider at the base of the valve. my hunch is that they're for the BEAMS 3SGE.

Length isn't a big deal that can be easily fixed, and if they are larger in diameter you could have a machine shop grind your valve seats to fit them, if they aren't so big as to leave no valve seat left after grinding. Just food for thought.

the intake valve body (portion that creates the seal to the head) is about 4-5mm larger overall. the length is 6mm longer. no way am i having a shop grind those suckers down. already in the process of returning them and getting a different set of replacement valves - stock spec.

oh, and i cracked open the BGBs that i have here...
3sge intake: 102.85mm length, 5.955mm shaft diameter
3sge exhaust: 101.9mm length, 5.955mm shaft diameter

3sgte intake: 100.5mm length, 5.960mm shaft diameter
3sgte exhaust: 99.55mm length, 5.955mm shaft diameter

the 3sge specs are from a Gen 1 (1988) and the 3sgte are from a Gen 2 (1993).

so... in theory, the 1st and 2nd Gen valves are interchangeable. i'll contact my engine builder on Monday to see if using the 2nd Gen valves would be an issue.

I have a BUNCH of gen1 3sge valves if you need some. They are not near me but I can probably manage to get them shipped if you need some.

well... why not? are they toyota factory valves?

i am just trying to get my 3SGE AW11 running again. i sort of fractured a valve - long story that i'll tell later.

please email me, so that we can get the ball rolling on this. :) i am busy here at work, otherwise i would email you, etc.
