View Full Version : The BRZ

So I decided I wanted something lighter, and RWD. Got rid of my STI and now have a BRZ. Even though its got half the power the STI did, I think its funner to drive. The STI kinda felt like you had to manhandle it at times, and had a very heavy feel to it. This thing is the exact opposite. Power will come later, going to go the super charger route when it happens.

Sweet!!!

Just out of curiosity, any reason you went with the BRZ over the FRS?

BRZ has more options, and the way they set the suspension up in the BRZ is more neutral, whereas the FRS is more tail happy. I wanted a neutral feeling car. I also don't like the front bumper on the FRS, and couldn't lower myself enough to drive a car with a scion badge on it. I kinda really don't like Scion. While its the same car, I don't want the logo that'd associate me with THOSE people.

Sick ride, A buddy intown went the Turbo route...he ran 12.1 just recently but that was "going easy" he said..because he drove it to the event ( 3hrs from town ) and had to drive her back home .

Oh hai! Have we met? I'm 99% of all front engine, AWD vehicles! :hehe:

Nice choice though. But it needs a supercharger.

Yeah... I'm just upset that the manual gets 5mpg worse across the board than the automatic. Also, I would go the BRZ route over the FRS for the options as well.

And change your damn sig.

When I get my 15 years in in May of 2015, I'm using my second lease option on a FR-S. I like the option set up on the BRZ better, but we get a hell of a deal through the TMS lease program.

Sweet ride Baby Bear.

This is the exact reason why I got my fake Evo wagon. The thought of being a subie owner made my stomach turn.

I'm not sure if you know this...

It's a fact most Subie owners don't even know...

Perhaps it was the salesman...

Maybe it's all you saw in the advertising...

Maybe nobody told you...

Congrats. Maybe I'm just used to the sti but I don't really like driving the brz(luckily my wife does) I guess I'm just used to the feeling of body roll on a car so it is strange to take turns fast on that car.

I barely found out subaru had different colors! Ha jk you can never go wrong with world rally blue on a subaru.

You can't WRC a BRZ though... Why would you trade a real car for a cute toy?

I never WRC'd the Subaru either. And to that point, Subaru has been out of the WRC since the body style of STI I had came out. They made a prototype GR chassis WRC car, but it never actually raced. I like the feel of RWD more than AWD. And so what if I like my cute little toy more than the "real" car! Back up off my nuts or I'll collapse your other nut! Bro!

Check out Nameless Performance for upgrades. Talk to Jason Griffin, tell him Joey Sim recommended them. They're good people.

The aftermarket parts for those cars is huge, especially for no longer than the car has been out.

Will do! I kept seeing "nameless" popup on things and I assumed it was the same deal I had on my STI where I had no idea what the name of my downpipe was. Reading about them it sounds like they make good parts.

They do some amazing work. This is the advantage with having real engineers designing parts for cars instead of some tuners just throwing stuff at a car.

Huh, didn't realize the BRZ's torque curve was so flat. That's 85% of max torque at 2400 RPM.

The torque curve on the BRZ is very similar to what it was on my Rx-7's. Makes for it being predictable. I always loved my little pack of angry hornets. :D

Congratulations on the car bro! I can't wait to get to check it out.

When I went to the bay on Saturday, I got to see the docks where they offload all of the BRZ's that come into CA. There were literally a few hundred just chillin' there. Loads of different colors. All of them had the giant protective film on the front ends/hoods. It was pretty neat to see. :)

There are 2 different shades of blue, so when he says "Loads of different colors" he really means either the world rally blue, or the galaxy blue silica :P

The yard next to the mothball fleet? Near the refineries? I used to get paid to drive those around to/from the detailers. Only did it for a few weeks, but was $15/hr back in 2004, decent money.

I drove one on hoosiers and, I've gotta tell ya, it's better on a good set of street tires. The stick of the hoosiers just deaden the natural rotation of the car. At least, that is the case stock.

I really want to try one in proper STX trim.

No, no winter driving. I have a Honduh that gets driven in bad weather, or when I'm too lazy to pull the BRZ out of the garage.

After the test drive in the mountains, I liked everything but the power. The powerband was good, just needs more torque for what it was trying to do.

Well, finally getting around to posting some updates. Since my last post in this thread I've gotten rid of the shitty chrome tail lights, the shitty stock spoiler, the shitty stock wheels, lowered it with some swift springs and got a good alignment on it, and finally found my goto wax for it. The supercharger was going to happen this year but I've decided getting rid of the Del Slow and finding something that can haul more than one other person at a time was more important so the supercharger is gonna get ordered next spring.

I like that the spoiler change and the tail lights change didn't drastically change the look. Like, it does enough to be noticeable, but not where it slaps you in the nuts.

I'm still shocked that my BRZ was the highest mileage 2013 at that meet. I get no end of shit for never driving it haha. Though there was that 2014 that had 70k on it. Dunno how you put that many miles on a car in that short amount of time.
