I found this wire in the drivers side coil spring. I have a funny feeling that isn't where it goes. I'm thinking it's the starter wire, but there is something attached to the starter, so now I'm not sure.

that looks like your starter ground? usually you have the chassis and the starter ground to that side of the battery.

The shielding is black, which indicates a ground. You should see if the clamp end fits on the positive or negative post of the battery (they are different diameters). If it only fits on the negative post, that would be your primary battery ground wire.

I suspect your car is apart and you are trying to remember how to put it back together????

No, i bought the car from a very... special person. I took the wheels off to have one of the tires patched and found the end near the positive terminal in the driver's side spring.

Looks to me like a ground cable. Normally it will have 3 connection points #1 (ring for battery) goes to the - terminal on battery #2 short cable to body (about 10 guage)#3 longer thicker (about 6gauge) to the engine block.

Which, from the picture, describes the cable in question extremely well.

engine grounding cable, hooks to a bracket on the tranny. But anywhere on the engine block or trans is fine.

Excellent, this is exactly the answer I'm looking for.

Thanks guys.

Your welcome, the starter will love you as well for hooking that up.
