I pulled the fidanza flywheel off the engine finally tonight. This is what I found

This is the engine side of the flywheel, it seems some thing has ground a ring into the aluminum( can definitely feel ridges. Is there suppose to be a spacer of some sort for the 5sfe? Installed it over 7years ago so I don't have the package instructions nor do I remember.

Does any one have one not installed that could take a pic for me? Gonna be pissed at myself even more if I gotta buy a new one(already have a replacement friction surface to install).

Might be rubbing when it deflects due to the pressure of the clutch being released. I'd just get that groove machined smooth - remove as little as material as possible to get rid of the rough edges, and use a dye penetrant kit to make sure it got all the cracking. If you need to take a lot off, or if it is cracked after taking the groove out, get a new flywheel.

I have one sitting in my closet, I will get to it Friday and post up pics. Granted, mine is for a Rev1 5S-FE.

I'll see what I can get, visually I see no grinding marks anywhere on the block or screws ect behind where the mark on flywheel is.

Im still wondering if there is suppose to be a spacer used with this flywheel, joey says no spacer on stock 5sfe with manual trans. So I would assume none needed for this.

Here's a pic of my block. No visual damage to anything no edges of bolts ground down. All appears just as it should.

Hell maybe it is made like this and I just dont remember. Ive also reached out to fidanza via email with pics included,no response yet. I do have the correct flywheel for my application. That I have verified.

I would measure the distance from the top of one of the bolt holes to the worn groove in your flywheel. Then I would go to you block, on the crank hub, and measure the same distance from the top edge of a hole used to mount the flywheel and find out where that dimension takes you.

If I were to guess, when that flywheel was installed originally, something accidently fell down between the flywheel and the rear main bearing hub/oil seal during assembly, got wedged in there, and the flywheel just ground into that object until the object was worn enough to get flung out. Can happen if loose parts aren't kept away from things like this during assembly.

When the flywheel is installed no way to get in between to measure anything. I cant even see inbetween.

Idk it didnt seem to affect anything for the 7 years it was bolted up. So If I cant figure anything out ill just run it as is.

measure the center of the flywheel to the mark, then measure the center of the crank to the distance you measured off the flywheel. if its free space it may have indeed been shipped to you like that.

I'll try that and see what I get. .I just wanna drive my car again.......its been 11 months.

You would think if it was grinding on the block or something it would be pretty obvious.

Well I don't know if it will make you feel any better but I have the exact same markings on a flywheel I bought used ( I've never installed it yet as it doesn't fit my 5s, so I'm assuming it came off a 3s ? The pressure plate bolt holes are just slightly off for the new CC clutch I bought for my 5s)

Also I have a brand new Fidanza flywheel on order.. should be here Saturday, So I can take pics of that right out of the box for ya

Awesome! Thanks. I had a suspicion that they were manufactured like this.

Hmmmm thats odd. Was there any spacer included?

Both mine and your used one have the same marks.......the new one does not.
