View Full Version : How do I pop wires out of Toyota plugs?

Hopefully this question makes sense, I saw a thread a while back that showed how to do it but I can't find it.

Engine has been running weird lately (seemed like a vacuum leak) so I did a quick check today and found that both wires going into my VSV had broken off at the plug. I need to take the leftover pieces out in order to re-insert the wires. How do I release the wires?

:dunno:

Exerpt from soemwhere on the web...

"I use a paper clip that is filed flat to look like a mini flathead screw driver. Reach in through the front above the pin hole and hold up the retaining plastic part, then pull out the pin."

Hope this helps.

Or you can buy a proper remover for a couple bucks.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I bought a couple of .110 22-20 gauge female quick connects and crimped those to the wires as a temporary fix (they fit right over the pins on the VSV).

Ill probably just use these until I can go to the junkyard and get the actual plug.

The wiring manuals explain in great detail how to remove the pins.

And you can find removal tools for like $7.

Might be worth it to invest in some.......

A small ice pick (sometimes sold as a "hook tool") works great, I picked up a set of four different angles from Lowes for like $5

I have a set of fine flathead screwdrivers that do the job.
