Has anyone every swapped their 4 cylinder with a 6, i.e. Camry, cylinder engine? I saw a pictures of a guy in England who swapped his 5th gen celica 4 cylinder with a 8 cylinder.

Yes, a member on here has a V6. I'm planning on doing the same in a year or so.

Search 1mzfe and 3mzfe here, that'll get you started.

I have an automatic, will the conversion work with that or will I have to have a manual transmisision installed?

He was in Australia.

There are several members here with with V6 swaps.

From what I've seen most of he V-6 swaps have been done in 6th gen Celicas but it is possible in a 5th Gen as well. It's not as easy to do as a 3S-GTE or Beams engine swap because it will require fabricating at least one motor mount, building a custom exhaust and possibly other complications. The answer to whether it can be done with an automatic transmission will depend mostly on whether you can find an ECU that will work for both the V-6 engine you choose and for the automatic transmission you want to use.

you can use the auto transmission that came from the Camry. the engine mounts should still be pretty close on the trans,

soory for the noob question, im new to the celica forums, so there is no easy straight up swap v6 for the 5th gen? i also have a mr2 and i have see v6 swaps in them, and they have less space than the celica.

Engine swaps are never easy when you try to put an engine into a car that was not originally sold in it. The 1MZ-FE or 3MZ-FE can be made to fit with a custom motor mount, custom exhaust, rewiring, and modified/custom right side axle hanger. If you want a relatively easy swap, stick to an engine that was made to fit the 5th gen Celica, like the 3S-GTE.
