August 10th there should be Time Attack at the Penticton Speedway, $60/person if paid early enough. It's about a 1.5-2 hour drive each way from Vernon though.

ChrisD

Yep. We might do something on the Sunday, like go to the beach. It'll be the low key day. Saturday will be the autocross (tentative), cruise, and big BBQ. Friday we'll do something fun but it will probably be more casual. Thursday, not sure when we will arrive - last year my group showed up at like 9 if I remember right. Hopefully we'll get there sooner this year.

Should we put that same liquor store on the itinerary this year, for when people arrive on the Thursday...haha. It was pretty funny having 4 or 5 Honda guys hanging out in the parking lot near the liquor store, only to have nearly 20 Celicas etc show up to buy some beverages for the weekend. Talk about a portable car show :)

Chris, could you add a link to the site for the Chalet and some details about it to your first post? I'm sending this invite info to a few people who weren't there last year and the "Lodging" section is a little ambiguous as to what exactly we are doing and getting for the money (I know cause I was there, awesome deal!).

SupraFiend

And a note to all about the Autocross on the Saturday. Please participate if you can! Besides the fact that its really fun, not too hard on your car and you require no previous motorsports experience, we are floating the entire cost of the event this year. Its just us running this autox, so if we have too little participation, we will loose money. But besides that, it is a hell of a good time and the thrill per dollar ratio is unmatched when it comes to motorsports!

An Autocross is like running on a road course made of pylons, one at a time. We divide everyone into classes (we will probably run the same class structure as last year) and you compete on lap times. Your car will have to undergo a basic safety inspection at the event to participate. We will check for a functioning battery tie down (I mention this first because its the most common thing people fail on), seat belts that catch, no loose items in the vehicle, and we will shake down your wheels to see if there's anything loose in the suspension. Basically if your car can survive the road trip to Vernon, you will probably be fine (but check that tie down and deal with any weird clunks and shudders beforehand).

Autocross can be a little hard on tires, but compared to all other motorsports is very easy on the rest. We will setup the course so there is very little chance of you hitting something if you loose control, the worst pylons will do is leave a scuff that polishes off. We'll make the course design a little simpler then last years too, but everyone got the hang of that one eventually.

I'm pretty sure this will be the first all Celica\Toyota autox hosted in BC, should be awesome!

Sure, I'll update that tonight! Yes that place was awesome!

On the note of making /losing money on autocross - if we make money, the extra will be spent on some extra prizes. So it could definitely work out in your favor! 12 cars is profit for us. :-)

I already have one. It has Dragons on it.

Also, I won't ask for a girly tee since I can't make it this year. But after I get out and won't have to mess with going to the range and other requirements? I'm definitely going. And that is when I'll ask for a girly tee. It still has to be a mens XL at least. It should just be pink.

And for you first timers to autox, here's a little extra info I wrote for last years event...

Leave time to walk the course ALOT. Once you get registered, get your course map and get your car teched, spend the rest of the time walking the course till you can navigate it on foot without referencing the map (its actually not that hard ). Walk the course as if you were driving it, from the side of the car you'll be sitting on too, so when you go tearing through it at speed it all looks familiar. The idea is to memorize the course and work out the best driving line beforehand, but I'd just worry more about memorizing it if its your first time.

Things you need to do to your car to get it ready for racing and to pass tech:
- If you have slippy floor mats or thick rubber ones that could interfere with the pedals , remove them.
- Remove anything thats going to possibly move around while racing. Remember, you're going to see G forces way higher then you ever experience on the street, if its not bolted down, its gonna go flying. Also might as well remove junk from your trunk like jacks and spare tire. Might as well save the weight and anything thats clunking around in the back is going to distract you.
- Battery tie, battery tie down, battery tie down. If you don't have one or the battery isn't tight, you aren't racing. You have no idea how many people I've seen turned away because of this.
- Other things they will check quickly, functional seatbelts (must catch on a hard tug), loose wheels\suspension & your helmet (if you have one). Leave it in the car for tech.
- Oh and be sure to check your tire pressures the day before or that morning. I wouldn't run more then 32ish cold, but generally you'll have your best traction around 30psi warm.

Thats about it. Autox is actually quite easy to do, very affordable and not that hard on your car. And if you've never tried it before, you will be blown away with how fun it is. I encourage you all to try it! I'll be there in a black 86 Supra and I don't mind taking passengers if anyone wants to go for a spin. Most clubs do guided course walks for beginers too, I don't mind giving it a shot if there are none being offered. See you guys on Saturday!

Most will probably see this and most were there last year, but either way.

And just a note to all about the vehicle classing. In case it wasn't clear, the idea is to keep the competition as close as possible in all categories. So if you get bumped to a more competitive class during Registration, just keep in mind we're trying to level the playing field as much as possible and keep it interesting. You may get bumped if you did really well last year even. An even class in a large autox will often see the top 5 competitor's best times within half a second of each other, and its always funnest when the lead keeps swapping all day. Your fastest time of the day is the only one that counts for final placement, and we should be all getting at least 8 runs, maybe more.

If those pesky mr2s numbers continue to increase we'll have to give them their own class next year lol.

SupraFiend

Also forgot to mention, we can accommodate dual drivers. As in 2 people can run the same car. It costs the same per person, but is a good way for a friend or spouse without a vehicle to join in on the fun. You need to let us know if you are doing this during registration though. Even those of you who are prepaid for the autox will need to check in with Registration between 8 & 8:45, the sooner the better.

Just a reminder, when traveling here and on the cruises, do beware that the police are not very lenient when it comes to excessive speeding... This past Monday, there was a news article (see below) about them impounding five cars for excessive speed.

Safe travels, everyone!

^ good point, if you're going more than 40km/h over the limit your car will be impounded for a week. Last I heard it was around $1000 between the ticket, tow bill, and impound fees.
