View Full Version : Engine Rebuild Questions

Okay so I'm sending my engine block to a machinist place that rebuilds them.

I wasn't sure what was better to do get a new one (which I've searched very where for) or just rebuild it.
So I think I'll rebuild it.

They asked me to bring just the block no accessories I got a rod knock, so while the block is out what are something's I can do while its out of the car?

Like I wanted to replace the wiring harness but I'm not sure.
Maybe paint the engine bay.
What else can I do?
Any suggestions?

Good luck with the wiring harness.

While it's out it may not be a bad idea to clean up the engine bay. Degrease it, do whatever you want while the motor is out. I'd also degrease the transmission while you have it out.

Check the crankshaft. Make sure it doesn't need to get turned down.

Check the crankshaft. Make sure it doesn't need to get turned down.

Hopefully the crankshaft went to the machine shop with the rest of the block, and the machine shop will inspect the crank to determine if a replacement is warranted, or if the journals can be turned a bit and oversized bearings installed. Hopefully, if this is a good machine shop, they will use their best judgement on the approach to rebuild the block, replace piston rings, hone the cylinders, etc.
