So yeah... making a left turn through an intersection, light had turned yellow, no visible on coming traffic, some red mini truck (I think Ford Ranger) comes flying through the intersection. Here's (https://maps.google.com/maps?q=710+Walton+Green+Way+NW,+Kennesaw,+GA&hl=en&ll=34.051228,-84.595209&spn=0.003858,0.018797&sll=32.678125,-83.178297&sspn=8.881198,19.248047&hnear=710+Walton+Green+Way+NW,+Kennesaw,+Georgia+3 0144&t=m&z=17&layer=c&cbll=34.051126,-84.595155&panoid=a1CkkFD9ms2ErtGdBSluaA&cbp=11,75.25,,0,13.13) where I got hit, my apartment is marked for giggles. Had just gotten the car back from a new aftermarket radiator install, five minutes prior.

Upgrades are as follows:
ST165 twin pot calipers
Rear disc conversion
stainless steel braided brake lines
Suspension Techniques Rear Anti-sway bar
TRD 6th gen springs
Koni Struts
Neon front strut tower brace
7th gen GTS wheels with Continental Extreme Contact DWS 195's
Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD 7" double din touch screen dvd player with iPod video hook up (with 32GB SD card, need to get that out, if the head unit isn't completely fucked)
JDM Yellow fogs
JDM Rain visor
90 All-trac front bumper (Princess' original bumper)
GTS Power lumbar seat for driver
GT4 Power lumbar seat back (GTS seat base) for passenger side
Random <$40 Pioneer/Blapunkt speakers
92/93 coupe tail lights (tinted)
knock off TRD seat buckle covers (removed)
JDM Clear corners

Any guesses on how much they'll offer me for a <100K mile car?

METDeath

Oh... I forgot the unistalled mod list:
System 10 door panels (jdm yo!)
Renegade 8" speakers for the doors (two pairs... whoops)
Kicker SSMB8 (pair, new in box, chose to go with above for less cutting)
Inifinty Kappa 4.29i (pair, was going to get matching rear speakers)
1000w 2ch amp
Battery relocate
ACE underbody brace
new water pump/timing belt
EDM mirrors
Celica hood trims (THANK GOD, even though they're in shit shape)
turbo kit (ct26, had everything but the two bar map sensor, fuel management, and intercooler)
fidanza aluminum flywheel
auto to manual conversion (needed a clutch and transmission still, was going to be before the turbo install)
GTS wide body fenders (needed a small dent fixed and paint, was going to try to get it done before dragon)
two pairs of TRD seat buckle covers (one pair is new, other was in the car but is removed)
and my 17x7+40 with 215/40/17 StarSpecs were sitting safely on my back porch (yay 2nd story apartment).

I'm not sure if I want to sell off my parts horde (includes a few sets of tail lights/extra celica hood trim) and get something similar (6th gen ST hatch would be awesome, reuse the summer wheels) or find another GT/GTS but manual and hatch this time

Also, the passenger seat could be done just buy finding another power lumbar GTS/All-trac seat and bolting it up to a matching seat bottom, that's what I did.

The wreckers will part it out, correct? We could then purchase the individual parts, yes? I assumed that is how it works. It'd be a way to get anything that you didn't have time to pull. Curious as to how it works, as I assume that is why tow companies show up and don't charge for the moving to their yard.

Not likely, I think SOP is for the insurance company to sell the car to a junkyard if I don't buy it... not sure. I will have to ask my adjuster who called, but I couldn't make it to the phone in time. Called them back... and nothing so far.

If Marshall doesn't buy it back it will either be sold to the yard that towed it, or auctioned off. If you want the car or the parts, buy it from Marshall (as in Marshall buys it back and you buy it from him and arrange shipping.)

Buy it back. Usually on older cars, they don't charge a whole lot to buy it back. I think my GT was $400 to buy it back. I figured I'd pay it for the suspension and the gen 3 3SGE.

Again, I have no place to put the car... also, the only parts I could safely remove that are worth anything are the rear suspension, and the front driver's side, the front passenger side is fucked, so it's not a complete suspension. Not sure if the wheel that got hit is any good, probably got a crack in it. So that leave three wheels... it's kind of hard to sell three wheels.

The seats are worth removing, but I'd have to get another 5th gen to use them, granted, I could probably sell all that for about what they would sell me the car for. However, it all comes back to I don't have a place to put the car for very long. I will get pictures of the interior today when I go get the last of my things out of it. However, pretty sure my car got bowed a little on the inside... from memory the center vents had popped out and little interior cover panels popped out from the driver's side. Everything else on the car is stock or worthless (cheap speakers). The tail lights are in decent shape, but I have had shitty luck selling tail lights prior to this.

If I had a garage, I would by all means buy it back, part it out as completely as possible.

I'm amazing, also, I didn't tense up, so I did fine. Knee bruise is down, and doesn't cause me pain from moving like it did yesterday. I have some general soreness, but it's the whole I got hit by a truck thing. If I wasn't sore I'd actually be concerned. I still have full range of motion in all joints pain free. So I expect all the soreness to be gone in a week or so.

Car wouldn't be "mostly complete" I'd have the front seats out, what I can salvage of the suspension (3/4 + the rear sway bar) and that's it... plus I'm currently looking to be out of town until... Basically 3/17. I am going to be home for two nights between now and then most likely unless this other job gets moved back. Then I'll actually be home from 3/2 to 3/11, however, that is unlikely.

Cliffs: Probably not going to buy the car back unless someone else wants to get it and do the work.

Actually... Talked this over with Murg on the phone (no joke).

In no particular order:
Another 5th gen (All-trac or gtfo, unless it's under 2k)
6th gen ST hatch
7th gen GTS
Possible 77 GT hatch (no pictures on the ad yet, so not sure)
I've got a solid lead on a 2003 WRX wagon, co-worker in TX owns it, and has maintained it properly. Only issue is I'm unclear of the brand of coil-overs he installed... so those may have to get replaced.
Hyundai Veloster Turbo (highly unlikely unless I get a stupidly large check for my car... yeah right)

Yes 6th gen ST hatch - Can be converted to GTFour
Yes 7th gen GTS - Should last you awhile
Reliable? Possible 77 GT hatch (no pictures on the ad yet, so not sure) - What are you replacing?

CBB, if I get the 6th gen it's an ST... so not going to bother with AWD/swap nonsense... I'll do a rear sway bar upgrade and put my star specs on it when it's time for fun. Then, when the struts need replacing go with coil-overs and be done until I get bored and swap it to rear disc and some sort of 7A-GE/20v/2ZZ-GE nonsense. Which will all be after I get some other car as a daily driver... which if I have an ST will probably be years.

The 77 is a far stretch right now, simply because I have always wanted one, but probably will never find an originally black GT 5-speed that isn't rusty, so probably wouldn't get one... and if I did... I'd just replace everything, suspension, motor/trans swap (LS motor).

7th gen... again, just a rear sway bar and swap on/off the fun tires that I still have as needed. Then again, as I actually need to replace parts, upgrade them.

WRX, if I buy it, I'm going to check it over a lot, before I drive it, then drive it, then think on it.

Veloster, probably not happening simply because car note.

The best part is that I have basically two months where I don't need a car, so I'm not in a rush to buy one and won't just jump at what the insurance company offers me.

Because they're tanks that are very forgiving to drive regardless of conditions. You know, the reasons people think they're getting SUVs and such.. only with an alltrac it's true. Yes, they can be a pain in the ass to work on, but what they do, they do well. I'd still like to have one... but not if it's my only car.

T-spoon
02-21-2013, 04:17 AM
Not just because they understeer, no. Most things stock understeer anyway yeah? They're forgiving in any way you can mention. That makes them excellent for whatever unexpected condition you might run into. And who cares what Subarus do? I don't want a Subaru.

METDeath
02-21-2013, 04:21 AM
If I got an All-trac I'd probably just keep it stock for a while... mainly because I think the Whiteline sway bars are discontinued and I would have to decide what brand of coil overs to get for it... or spend lots of time making a Koni/Ground Control/Swift combo... Then giant brakes and probably done...

That aside... I'd almost rather have a GTS since I "know" the platform and can pull the seats out of my GT and almost make it worth buying back.

I took the head unit and the power lumbar seats, live in an apartment and having a wrecked/non-running car is kind of a no-no unless you have a garage for it, which would have been 100/month until I was done with it, granted, I wouldn't have kept it long.

I was also out of town for two weeks after the accident, back for a week, then gone again for another week. So I wouldn't have had time to pull the few special parts off.
