I know it's only two wires, but I don't have the original plug. I'm guessing that since it's just a solenoid then I can wire it either way, but I want to be sure. Does anyone know? Or can you attach a picture of your gen3 vsv wire colors on the plug? All I need is the wire colors on the plug. I can go from there. Thanks!

Check with CMS-GT4. He's got a Gen3 swap and may have the info you need.

Thanks, but I think I have it figured out. Someone from the other celica forums told me the wire colors are both black with a red stripe for both pins on the vsv. So most likely it is just a regular solenoid that can be connected either way. I'll connect it both ways and blow through it to see what happens. It should be ok either way though.

I can compare my gen4 if that'll help.

I don't know how similar the Gen3 and gen4 vsvs are. It's ok. I'll connect it straight to the battery to test it, and see which way works or if both do.

Careful of that, IIRC it either uses 3.5v or 5v, not 12v.

The gen3 vsv actually draws it's power directly from the battery and not the ECU. So the ECU is configured to short to ground when the vsv is switched on by the relay. Meaning it is 12v and not 5v or 3.5v. Thanks for the concern though.

Worked fine either way, it's just a regular solenoid. neg and pos can be swapped and it works fine. It's wired 12v directly from the main relay and the wire that goes to my Autronic I've configured to short to ground. plus I wired in a little LED and resistor on the plug so I know when it's on :)
