My trans is starting to show its age and mileage and while I work at a late model junk yard

So I'm wondering if a 98 camrys s51 would swap out? Or should I order in a used lower mile trans or what would the best manual trans mission upgrade?

You should probably go with an S53 (which your car came with) or an S54 from a 94-99 Celica. KoreanJoey knows more about it than I do, but there is very little modification necessary to install an S54 (just swap in the S53 speed sensor).

Either the S53 or 54 would be a good replacement. The S54 is geared shorter so you might lose some of your gas mileage at the benefit of better acceleration. It's a smoother transmission and they're newer and usually have less miles on them.

Would a e153 from a v6 Camry be better or is there a lot of modification to do to make it fit?

I have an e153 from a mr2 in my celica. From a camry is easier (as you don't have to convert it to FWD). You'll need hybrid axles and speed sensor off your car and that's it. Mounts are basically the same (except for rear, need a differnet bracket).

Ill just need v6 inner and st184 outer right? With my stock shaft or would I need to change the length? And what bracket?

Wouldn't I need to change my hubs then?

Wouldn't I need to change my hubs then?

No. The ST184/ST185 share the same hub spline count. I have an e153 from a MR2 in my car. I'm using non-LSD mr2 inner shafts and ST165 outer shafts.

Then why would I need new outers?

The St184 units don't connect to the mr2 inner axles.
