Hello All,

I am a new member here and I have a question that I need to ask. I have a 2001 Celica GT with the 1ZZFE engine it. I bought it in February 2012 and the engine started knocking about 6 months later at around 184,000 miles. I talked to a mechanic about rebuilding the engine and he informed me that it wouldn't be worth the money to do that. He informed me that I should buy a new motor and that it would be cheaper to do that. What do you all think? Thanks in advance.

Really it's your call. How long are you expecting to keep the car? Driving habits?

You can throw in a used motor for a couple hundred (for the motor, factor in mechanic cost). Rebuilds aren't that much more, depending on what you replace. Myself, I would pickup a motor with good compression from a junkyard. Then I'd turn around and re-seal the whole motor (new gaskets everywhere) and throw that in there.

Used motors lower mileage motors are the easier and better option. The normally come out cheaper, but not always.

I would do what they said, and if you plan on keeping it for awhile maybe rebuild the old one if you have the tools and resources.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to look around and see what I can find.
