What is the best way to do this without removing the axles from the transmission? I was hesitant to buy the split boots (for obvious reasons). I should be able to gently stretch them over right?

I have one of the universal slip on boots. Worked great and hasn't separated in the two years I've run with it.

I went with OEM units. I (obviously) don't have the boot stretcher so looks like I'm going to be tearing the axles apart :(

better to pull the axles and use good boots than put a split boot on and not have a proper seal.

It's so easy to just take apart the axle. You'll need a vice, a brass drift, and the tools for whatever hose clamps come with the boots.

Get Toyota parts because the grease is different in the inner and outer joints.

I totally forgot....my axles split apart :P

Removed axles, knocked off the clip, dropped the bearings out and spent an hour getting them back in....then 20 minutes to finish the job.
