Meet the Rav. 2001, 1AZ-FE, 5 Speed, 104k. The fourth gens just got a big brother.

Now I can take the kids to soccer practice, lol!

Keep an eye on your water pump and your transmission.

Dunno, you haven't told me yet.

Well, I'm excited at least. Finally had a chance to drive it all around today, not just the two or three miles to work. It's like a really big Celica. I fucking love it. Actually accelerates and handles very well for the size. And with the studded tires, height, and 4WD it won't get stuck in the driveway when it snows like the fourth gens do, lol! I've got to get some all-weather tires for summer, but we're so close now that can wait, snow wouldn't be unusual here in late September.

Jermy, what trans issues have you seen? It is manual. The water pump doesn't worry me much, looks easy on this engine. Done a lot of power steering pressure lines on these? Just noticed the fluid is low but I haven't got under it to inspect.

Looks like a nice pickup Chris.

Good that you're enjoying it. :)
I thought about one of these, but I really wanted OBDI, and people want loads of money for those up here.
Good man, getting a manual. :) You should be fine then. Toyota extended the waranty for the autos to 150K, they were having problems with the programming screwing up the trans [MIL, replace/reflash ECU, if that doesn't fix it replace trans]. Water pumps are doable, just a PITA cause they're deep in there, and so close to the frame rail/AC lines. I suggest you stick with Toyota pink coolant, when the pump leaks it will spray it onto the hood [and you'll have residue inside the pulley]. If you use green coolant you won't get any residue. And you're not going to find it by doing a pressure leak test. They tend to only leak when they're hot.

I almost never do pwr steering lines, they're too expensive and don't usually leak that bad [the ones that come to the dealer anyways].
Take a look at your rack too, they tend to leak.
Poke a TINY hole in the inside end of the inner tie rod boots and see if any fluid comes out. If it does your seals are leaking. I did a lot more of those.

Excellent, thank you for the advice. The power steering reservoir was empty, it had to go somewhere. Looks like it still has red coolant, so I'll stick with it.

Good choice, it's the Celica of AWD right?

Hmm, somthing about that previous statement strikes me as off...

Almost as if there was some sort of celica offered that did in fact have AWD that you could have bought instead....

...

Never mind, i'm sure i'll figure it out later, I'm probably just imagening things.

I wouldn't be comfortable using an All-Trac as a winter car. This I won't care about punching through large drifts with.

You know, I actually wasn't going to do it red at first, believe it or not. But then a seller had the red K&N like $35 cheaper than anyone was selling the silver for. First thing I thought was, damnit, now I have to paint the valve cover. Second thing was, Murg will get a kick out of it.

Seriously? I plowed my own lanes with the 165.. uphill. The looks on the SUV drivers' faces were priceless. But anyway, yeah, the later RAVs are alright. The older ones with the 3SFE were kind of dreadful though (mostly because of the 3sfe)

Not saying it can't do it, I'd be to apprehensive about damaging the car.

I fully intend to 3SGTE a Rav4 before I die.

Or you could just get the Rav4 with a 2GR and supercharge it.

I have a soccer game tomorrow. You should drive me.

Although I'm thinking playing tomorrow may not be a good idea seeing as how I'm 80% sure I have a stress fracture in my foot... but fuck it, I'll play anyway.

Will this one come with the oil reservoir like the celica?
