I need to fix that. I'm very wary to walk into the parts store and say 'I need to de-oxidize my headlights'. They'll try to sell me the most expensive shit that most likely doesn't work.

I just bought the turtle wax kit. It worked somewhat. I'm sure it would have worked better if I would have spent more time on it. Honestly though... I would suggest getting some high grit sandpaper, maybe 1000, 1500, 2000 and wet sanding them. The kit comes with little annoying square pads that are exactly that, a piece of cardboard with some sandpaper attached. Granted I only paid like 12 bucks but, if I cod take it back and exchange for some sandpaper, spray detailer( or just a spray bottle with water), and some plastix by meguiars, I would.

Good kit will include a plastic polish and usually some type of foam ball to attach to your drill. Meguiar's and Mothers both make good kits.

The much cheaper alternative, but one which involves more risk -- albeit easily correctable -- is the one Ryan suggested, fine-grit sandpaper. I'd start with 1500, and it that doesn't work drop back to 1000. If you have a paint compound or abrasive polish, use this to finish. I have the Meguiar's Ultimate Compound, a very aggressive paint levelling product. It definately smoothed out a couple of plastic pieces and restored some clarity, though it didn't do as good a job as the PlastX meant for plastic polishing.

The kit quality just gets you faster results. I have the Turtle Wax kit. Took more elbow grease but got it done.

The real trick is sealing the lights after you polish off the damaged plastic before it yellows again. Find a good spray on UV clear coat and use the cheaper polish because you'll only need to use it once.

no kit needed if you own any kind of polishing machine (DA or rotory). Fine grit paper to take the oxidation/yellowing out, restore clarity with a fine polish on a cutting wool. Thats what I do. If you dont have a buffer, get the kit with the pad, not the ball. The pad allows you to get better more even pressure for a better result.

Its possible to do without a kit/drill or buffer. Autozone sells wet or dry all the way to 4000grit now. Start with 1500 to 2000 to 3000 to 4000 and finish with platicX.

Well, I bought the $9.99 Turtle Wax set. It came with 3 pads, lens clarifying compound and 'lubricant'. After washing the lens, I followed the directions. First use a towel and buff with the clarifying compound. If that doesn't work, proceed to use the pads and lube. Followed the method and kept plenty of lube on hand, then followed up with the clarifying compound after. Just need to re-align the drivers headlight and I'll be all set.

Just for future reference, 3M makes a kit that comes with several abrasive pads, a polishing pad and a bit to chuck into a drill/power screwdriver. Costs about $35 last time I got one but it will bring them to better than new. Think autozone carries it.

Just getting my $.02 in real quick.
My company sells a kit for around $60 that does around eight pairs of lights.

Now the big selling point on my kit is that is comes with a new application of the UV clear coat. Supposedly if you just buff a headlight and don't re-apply the UV coating, it will return to a dull shade very quickly.

I don't know if our kit really does last a whole lot longer then headlights that were just sanded, but I do know that the finished product comes out very nicely.

Red scotchbrite pad an a coat of clear coat made my old civics headlights look brand new
Did the same on my buddys 00 celica an he couldn't beleave how well it worked
