I know a lot plays into this, but for those of you who have run your cars at a strip.....
What mods and boost would I need to make my st185 run 13's?

Haven't gone yet but have k&n cone filter, 3" exhaust turbo back, running on 8 or 9 psi. What would I be expecting to run with a good launch and good shifts?

Lots of boost and tire to get to 13s.

Stock you are looking at a high 14s maybe 15s flat if you are lucky.

Just curious what it would take to keep up with my sti

Another STI LMAO, but seriously the Alltrac is what it is, trying to make it a STI killer will end up being more expensive then just buying something faster than a STI. On a side note drag racing without loads of expendable income is not recommended, big power=big repair bills for a 20+ year old car:2cents:

I know that haha, just want my trac reasonably fast and really clean.

Plus I just got my 12' sti so I wouldn't buy another new car.

Pat has also spent a small fortune to do so.

I wouldnt say its necessarily more expensive to turn your alltrac into an STI killer than buying an STI, but its definitely a labor of love and just buying the Subie is definitely the easier route. In my case when everything is said and done, I will have spent close to $20K for what I am hoping to be is about 500awhp. If my math is correct and most newer STI's and Evos both sell for over 30K, im probably ok. Now... will I have stock reliability? Who knows? NoShoes has a very reliable 500+whp MR2 that has had almost no issue whatsoever. So If I am vigilant, I think It may be possible to build a reliable STI killing alltrac.

I don't want to be an sti killer, with intake, exhaust, and tune my sti will blow my celica off the road even if I spent 15-20k on my all trac. I just wanna know what has to be done to keep up with it as it sits stock.

I already have new good tires.
Plan... fmic, td05 turbo (friend will sell one cheap off his old evo), better exhaust manifold, and tune.
Im guessing I need around 20 psi just to run 13's with this set up.
Reasonable?

I honestly doubt if you put 15-20k into ur track that youd get smoked by a Sti. Truth is at the time when my st165/2ndGswap boosting 15psi. I raced against an Sti and beat it. Driver isn't noob he was decent. Also I may add I was on a ct27. So that right there was only like $600 invested to take 1 out. So if i were to put 15-20k :). O man i would smoke the shit!!! out of a STI with minor or with upgrades. In all honesty usually how it works is, Whoever has a bigger Wallet/Smarter person always wins. Give me 10k ill hit low 11's easy for sure.

With stock ecu, afm, and fuel system I ran a 13.3 with a TD06-20g turbo at 12-13psi on a front mount intercooler. Same mods on the stock intercooler and 10psi went 13.9.

I ran a 13.6 with a ct20b and 14psi. Stock ECU. That is pretty much what the STI's do around here. But the stock ECU is extremely aggressive, so you have to be extra careful.

I think it would be very hard to hit 13's on the stock turbo.

I think the ST165 is a little lighter though Chris, so pretty sure he would need to run higher boost on a 20b or go with a slightly larger turbo.

The weight is roughly the same once you remove a couple things, and an STi has what, 70-80HP/TQ more than a stock Alltrac. Not that I've ever cared about being faster than anyone else, but that doesn't sound too tough to pull off. Plus every STi owner around here is a tool.

Probably, depends on what the goals are - I believe the 185 is about 100lbs heavier. I've also got a clutchmasters stage 3 which helps for launches. It's not the most aggressive clutch out there, but way way better than stock.

I can't remember what else I might have had installed at the time, but I might have been running water injection too. I was probably running the 185RC intercooler.

It's been a while, and I've changed a lot of stuff since then.

On my future 165/3gen swap I am hoping for 12's!!!! i don't care if im 12.99. I will be keeping it mostly stock. 15psi/Upgraded heat exchanger/Ct27/Oil Cooler from turbo fc/3" exhaust. If everything goes as planned I am expecting just that.

I don't think the CT27 will get you there unless you do some crazy weight reduction.

Not at 15psi anyway. "Mostly stock" and 12's don't really happen much in the same sentence...20psi+ maybe. Here's an old site of mine which should give you some reference points... http://gtfour.ca/race.html

Just actually looked at that site and my 13.6 was in 2004. Holy hell that was a while back.

And I listed my mods. Handy.

JDM 185 eng/ecu / Intake/Exhaust / CT20b 14psi / FPR at 45psi / Walbro FP / RC wta IC / NGK plugs / Fidanza flywheel / MHG/ Water Injection / Bypass Valve

I don't think the stock fuel system on the gen2 will allow you to make enough power to run 12's with all that weight. I was out of fuel at 13psi on a TD06.

I submitted my time slip a long time ago for that site and it never got added :(

Sorry about that, my bad. I got really bad at updating it for a while. We should just maintain a list here. I'd have to convince Rob or borinal to install the html tables addon to vbulletin to get it to work nice though. :P

He did say with a gen 3, so the 540's could probably handle 12's. From an injector capacity standpoint anyway. I don't know how well the stock ECU would deal with it, depends on a few things I suppose.

I Would really hope so. By according to a lot of random knowledge on power to weight ratios. My cousin with an e30 with a s52 swap was putting out about 250whp and back then with my 2gen swap/ct27 15psi I stuck with him on just 15psi alone and stock 2 1/4 exhaust piping. He also ran a 12.9. So Thinking with a better engine overall. 3gen swap/ct27 15psi 3" exhaust and upgraded heat exchanger and oil cooler. I would expect to hit high 12's at the VERY least.

I would be surprised if you got to low 13s. The stock oil cooler is just fine unless you are planning on doing endurance racing.

I went 14.7 I couldnt seem to go any slower or faster that day.
