View Full Version : Clutch? Transmission?

So i noticed this in 3rd and 4th a couple days ago and now its through all the gears.

Its not difficult to get in gear, goes in just fine. But, when accelerating, the car doesn't go, tach goes up almost like its in neutral, then it drops down and gets rolling. Cluth issue? tranny issue? think i could have a leak and it needs fluid? Thanks.

Rather it be the clutch than the tranny

In the Audi?

Sounds like the clutch is going. Thats standard issue stuff. Good test Azz, would be to put the parking brake on and put it in 5th gear and let the clutch out and see if the car dies. If it doesnt die, your clutch is TOAST.

Yes, in the Audi, larrbear.

You done broken it.

Did you sneeze next to it? Or perhaps look at it at the wrong angle? Could explain why it done broke.

Where a toyota shirt next time you drive it.

I think it was my conversation involving my love of juice while i was driving it. It thought i was talking about jews. Honest mistake

Oh, man...

That car has over 100k miles on it. Its not unfathomable for the clutch to die.

Im not defending Audis here, but this one was made in Germany and isnt one of the REALLY shitty mexican made ones. So give it a chance. Hey Rob, hows that Honda treating you? :p (had to do it, cause its a HONDA and we have been working on it quite a bit lately lol)

Be prepared for an expensive ass clutch job. I think the dual mass flywheel alone is as much as most clutch jobs parts and labor. But if it's not hot spotted (it probably is) it CAN be machined. Don't let some jackleg machine shop tell you otherwise.

Edit: looks like you can get an aftermarket flywheel for about $800 not bad considering the last 1.8t I did a clutch on the flywheel was twice that with the shop's markup.
