I'm ordering a caldina engine next week I hope, but I already have a 3inch exhaust and am wondering if I'll need a custom downpipe, and do the 4th gen and second gen share the same oil pan bolt patern?

It may come with the stock downpipe. Either way you'll need the flange changed out to connect to your exhaust.

The gen4 doesn't share pans with the gen2

Alright since the oil pans don't match does anyone know of any high capacity oil pans like the moroso pan for the 2nd gen?

Seriously... stay with the gen 4 pan if you are going to buy a caldina motor swap...

Here are a list of reasons why:

Gen 4 oil pump ONLY works with the Gen 4 pan.
Gen 4 electronics requires the use of the crank trigger which also requires the gen 4 pump, and pan
Gen 4 oil cooler location will not accept the gen 2 oil cooler
Gen 4 HFHOE is different than even the gen 3 and will not work with a gen 2 water pump.
If you went with a gen 2 pan, you would have to go with a gen 2 oil pump, oil cooler, water pump, and block. as well as gen 2 electronics..
Might as well just buy a gen 2 at that point...

I gotta ask, why so much concern over running a crappier oil pan??? the gen 4 oiling system and pan is quite awesome?

Ok I'm not going to lie I didnt do my research on the 4th gen. I just know its got all the newer electronics I am wanting. So I'm pretty much just jumping in head first so I hope I don't drown.

I forgot about that. Its the same type of block as the 98+5sfe right? Like thicker in the same areas.

Yeah, they keep getting a lot of them in with auto transmissions & they just liquidate them. I think I ended up around $1100 shipped for mine. Received it 2 days after I bought it.
