View Full Version : @$23! Engine..

Driving down the highway... changing tunes and between changes I hear a slight tapping'ish noise when Im on the throttle..

Play with the throttle a little and its consistant with the throttle.. look at the oil pressure gauge, 0! :(

Still going down the highway.. prob 5 seconds later the oil light flickers and comes on.. step on the clutch, engine dies.. coast to the shoulder.

So after calling a tow truck I decide to look under the hood and the line going to the stock oil sw and oil psi sensor decided to break.

Im so mad! there wasnt any knocking going on so hopefully I didnt do too much damage :(

well.. patched it up and threw in some oil... runs but there is some slight chatter :(

time to find another 3rd gen 3sgte... so far all I see is around $1000 for a "engine only" :( i'll attempt to rebuild it in the future

Where did it snap at? The head?

Sucks man

Yeah I had a adapter going to a line and the threads on the adapter snapped off. Stupid brass or whatever material that adapter is.

Now where to look for another engine.... jdmsource has a 3rd gen but thats complete and pretty much $2k :(

Sell what you dont need??

Considered ...but thats still a huge chunk of budget :(

For now I think I will just park it until I have some room.
Then one day drop the pan and maybe I will get lucky

Gonna spend the next few days working on my stock black 5SFE celica.
Its been sitting in my driveway cause I was working on the body cause it had a cracked roof and I chipped it out and the repair job turned out bigger so I filled it with normal bondo which wasn't a smart idea since the cracks came back again and the size of the repair was big so I should have actaully used something like fibreglass reinforced bondo rather than regular. The roof flexes too easy :(

There's someone selling pictons from a JDM engine, rods, new OEM bearings and rings on Alltrac.net for cheap, might help? Either way, I feel your pain.

PM me the link. I must have missed it.. more concerned bout the crank than those other parts like rods and stuff ;)

If only the crank came out easy... dreading doing another engine pull :(

While I'm here... is the crank off a 185 the same? or no?

Personally I'd source a new or good used crank. It can be cheaper that way and you can still use standard size bearings from Toyota.

3rd and 2nd gen 3s-gte's don't share many parts. The crank I believe is one of those parts. The 3rd-4th gen 3s-gte's do share a lot of parts. You may get lucky finding someone parting a st215 and can snag the crank from there.
