View Full Version : Reverse Light Switch

I'm wondering if anyone can find a picture of where this damn switch is. I have a 3sfe auto so not many of you would have this but I can't seem to find it anywhere on the transmission.

I think thats causing the issue with my reverse light not working.

The diagrams say you don't have a back up light, but that's gotta be wrong. That said the part number for the manual is 84210‑12040 and it can be found on the top of the tranny near the firewall side. I'd assume the auto has similar placement.

It's on the top of the transmission. Usually it's a lil' white 2 prong dealio.

A question unanswered remains a question regardless of the age, so often when tracing answers I run into dead ends and it's annoying when people cbf to answer somebody.

Actually you are both wrong - the switch is part of the selector switch on the front of the box
I do have a spare but it's a 140E switch

Actually you are both wrong - the switch is part of the selector switch on the front of the box

It is often called the "Neutral Start Switch", and it is on the transmission gear selector input shaft where the cable from your shifter is attached to. The switch is a multipurpose unit (prevents engine startup if in any gear position other than park or neutral, turns the backup lights on when in reverse, etc.). This is typically a very durable switch. You might want to diagnose it before going to the trouble to remove it, just to make sure it is the source of whatever problem is causing you to ask the question.
