So how does one get the vid to show up in the thread instead of the link these days??? Since youtube started giving those youtu.be links it hasnt worked here. Ive tried altering the link to www.youtube.com/whatever, tried using the embed link from youtube. Niether worked. I did properties on vids that do show in thread but dont know where on youtube to get that kind of link. And dont wanna do view source on the thread and sift thru 300 pages of text trying to figure out how that one link is working. Ive noticed others posting youtube vids that dont show, just the link. What are we missing here?

Ok, I tried copying the link from the address bar of youtube and then it shows in the thread but wont play, have to click link to watch in youtube. Now what?

So you take a youtube link... like this.

Where it says watch?v=mmeqRNAhDpQ all that crap after the equals sign is the unique video identifier.

Take the unique ID (in the example above that would be mmeqRNAhDpQ) and place it in between the youtube tags. The youtube tags are

[ y ] [ /y ]

Insert the unique ID between the open and close tag....

[ y ] mmeqRNAhDpQ[ /y ]

Remove the spaces (done so you can see the code) and simply insert it where you want...say like right here

and BOOOM you have embedded youtube videos.

The Embed feature on youtube you see is to embed the video in a HTML webpage. vBulletin code is different, namely it uses braces and not greater/less than signs. To embed a picture here you use the [ img ] tag while with HTML you'd use a <img src=blah.jpg> tag.

Tried using the tags and still shows the vid in the thread but wont play, have to click to open a window straight to youtube. This video contains content from wmg. It is restricted from playback on certain sites. I found some threads on google groups but nothing usefull. Could it be a prob with just certain yt clips but not all clips?

What's the URL?

Chances are the owner of the video disabled embedding.
