3VZFE is my recommendation for the S-series Celicas. 1MZFE works as well. The V6 swap isn't for the faint of heart. If you are crafty, you can do the swap for a comparable price to the Turbo 3SGTE. You can save money if you do a lot of the work yourself with parts from a junkyard.

3VZFE is what I have been waiting to swap into my 5th Generation GTS.

Im in the process of finishing up a 1mz swap on my 94 gt
Mine will be on the road this week end an ive got 3700 into the swap including the price of the car itself
the hardest part is the wiring an mr220v can do that for 440 after shipping
I did all the work n my garage with abasic socket set an a welder an cut off wheel

Im new here but i have a full build thread on 6gc.net i can post alink to if you would like

Heres the link
Ill tell you guys now the 3vz swap has got the be easier
The ecu is a nightmare if your gonna do a 1mz.
I trying to use the stock ecu for my 96 but it wont let me check my codes .
Mr220v say a 97 ecu shouldfix that an my power loss

Im seriously considering a 2GR swap now.... By the time I'm ready to do it hopefully the motors will be cheaper.

I wouldnt give up on the 1mz swap its done all the time in mr2s there no reason it can be done as easy in a celica
An let me tell ya it sounds great in a celicaa too

The 1MZ is a code nightmare, which is why the 3VZ is the easier route. Thanks for posting that up.

Up till now with the the swap has been really easy i have thought that once this one is at 100% i might find me another motor an rebuild it to swap into it so i can enjoy it an still get something better ready

which of these motors can go turbo

kurt95gt
04-17-2012, 03:54 AM
Best choice for that seems to be the 3vz since its an iron block an beefier inturnals

kurt95gt
05-04-2012, 11:27 PM
Yes she seems to be running very well
An its the first import ive drove that pulls like a v8

@ thatonedude

Why does the 1MZ suck? I run one in my MR2;it makes 196rwhp and 204rwtq on the motor, factory internals and no tuning. I can provide the graph if requested.

I loved my 1mz for the 23 mile i got to drive her lol
Then i tried to show off to a buddy and snapped the drivers axle at 3200 rpm lol

So, evidently torque is not lacking...

kurt95gt
05-07-2012, 04:49 AM
There is plenty of torque
She seems to pull hard an smooth from around 2000 to redline
An my lack of power steering make for torque steer fun. Lol

Im going to try an dig out some of the basic parts information from my swap to help maybe take some guess work out for others an ill add it here

Ok so this is the basic info on my swap
Ecu part# 89661-06331 its a 97 es300/camry ecu
97+ maf sensor
96 1mz with all the stock sensors
96 es300 charcoal can
94 celica s54
Stock axles(getting the thicker ones from carquest soon)
south bend stage 2 hybrid clutch( mr2 turbo pp an s54 clutch disc)
kirk front mount insert( never got the rear insert from po)
Custom intake
Custom exhaust. 2.25 y pipe into 2.5 from flex joint back
Mr220v converted wiring harness
3vz flywheel.
http://www.monkeywrenchracing.com/product_info.php?cPath=25_132&products_id=372
Above link is the flywheel bolts i used
I found a radiator hose that works. W/o modifying part# 71203

Few other things
I used the stock exhaust manifolds an the firewall side manifold had to me modified to work
The flange mounting flange had to be cut off to cleat the stock gt trans mount an i had to move the o2 sensor down stream by about a foot into the y pipe since it was hitting the steering rack

The firing order is 1-4,2-5,3-6 if you get a motor with wasted spark

the 97+ ecu is set to run the fuel system at 51psi an the 96 fuel system only runs at 32psi. With the stock fuel pressure regulator
As of right now i have a aftermarket fpr inline after the stock one to bump up the pressure
Still not 100% i neededit yet or not
Going to test running on just the stock fpr after the axle is replaced
Im sure theres more im forgeting but thats most of the need to know

well after the s53 blows up you can get a 1mz v6 camry trans, though at that point u wouldnt need a frank n stein clutch setup

kurt95gt
05-09-2012, 03:33 PM
Yea but then i need gt4 trans mounts hybrid axles gt4 shift cables
an a new clutch disc
i dont think im going to have any problems with the s54
But the stock axles dont seem to like it
I popped the clutch at 3200 an the drivers axle snapped

It'll be fun when she blows.

kurt95gt
05-09-2012, 10:13 PM
Once i get the rest of the where i want it ill probably swap to the v6 trans

Wish i could afford to just swap to awd

kurt95gt
05-10-2012, 01:20 AM
My. 1mz is in a 6th gen
Im. Hoping the s54 holds up ok for atleast a year or so
Id like to get my hands on a 92-93 camry v6 5speed front cut
Id drop the 3vz into my 95 coupe an put the trans in my 94 hatch with the 1mz
