Next one is aug 10-12?

ChrisD
01-30-2012, 05:27 PM
That's probably what we're aiming for. But it will depend on timing of a new event...involving a big parking lot, lots of cones, and lots of Celicas. :D

You'll want to be at this one, I guarantee it!

Does that mean we need helmets?

Who has a gopro setup??? :D

On a side note , any one think it means anything if two nights in a row I've had dreams where I've sold my celica??

I have a gopro. Some autox events that require helmets have rentals, but not all.

ChrisD
01-31-2012, 10:19 PM
Yes helmets will be required. If you do not have one, you will be able to rent one at the event. Still working out all the details with the organizers, but tentatively, August 10-12 will be the dates for this year. :D

A little step up from go-karts eh?!!! Woooo going to be good.

Moving north to the Cariboo area, weekends off for sure but it would be a 6-hour drive. Not too bad but we'll see, it might be possible depending on how the funds are.

I have to miss the Dragon this year due to training. If you keep the Ogopogo on those dates, I won't be able to make that either for the same reason. Which sucks cause this year I'll actually have my passport squared away. GRRRR!

Wife and I would like to come up again, but not so sure. We're visiting family this year so may not be enough spare traveling money. We'll just have to see, though. The autox sounds like a blast!

Car_Barn_Bandit
02-14-2012, 08:37 AM
I have a network of amazing people to cover lodging on the way up. As long as the car is running in tip-top shape, I'm requesting those days off and I'm putting aside money to make the trip.

I've had to cancel so many things I've wanted to do. Its time to quit getting distracted from my own life.

There will be extra seats from Calgary for sure. I might bring the Supra again this year if there is autox

sodap0p
02-17-2012, 08:22 PM
.I think my wife booked us for end of july and beginning of august so I should be free to make it this year. I dont know what to bring though. If autox is the plan, I might have to take my 2. I guess I should start working on her. Have a phoenix power ic to go in, needs new tires, fender roll, motor mounts, intake hose, etc...

i'm mostly a lurker of this forum, but i missed last year after some welcomes to the site and an invite to go, but this year if anyone's going to be passing by vancouver, b.c. or coming from here, i wouldn't mind some celica company!

phrax
03-18-2012, 07:39 AM
Yay! Looknig forward to going again this year. Hopefully for longer than just the cruise. I've noticed quite a few Celicas around the Okanagan that I didn't see at last years meet. I lack the graphics skills, but if someone did up a invite that I could print/cut at staples, I'd gladly do the footwork and introduce some more people to the scene.

ChrisD
03-21-2012, 08:07 PM
That's a good idea. We'll be using the same logo as last year, with some new colours for 2012. We can easily do up an invite for members to contribute. :)

info from the sun valley cruise in

Another cruizin season is rapidly approaching. We would like you to pencil in August 11 and 12 and plan to attend the Watkin Motors Sunvalley Cruise-In in beautiful Vernon B.C. The organizors have put together another great progam this year. We are pleased to announce that the Village Green Hotel has come on board this year. As well as being the starting point for this year`s poker run, The Village Green will also be offering several great stay and play packages and will be holding a pre poker run brunch. Many other great sponsors have continued their support. This year`s Cruise-In will certainly be one to remember. Register early and be eligible for a discounted entry fee. Early entries are also entered into a special draw and may win a prize package valued at $500.00. All entries will be entered in a draw for a $1000.00 cash prize. (Must be present on Sunday to win) Cruize on out to Vernon

C U There

so not sure if we were planning on staying at this hotel again, but my guess is it will probably be a whole lot busier.

Can I have more details about this Ogopogo run?
I never went, I don't know where it is, as I *should* be in southern Alberta at that time if everything goes as planned, I'd liek to know if I should add it to my agenda. :)

August 10-12 in Vernon, BC. The Calgary people will probably cruise out on Friday the 10th, to hopefully show up by early evening (depending how soon we get out of there, and assuming no one blows a turbo inside the first 20 minutes again!) :)

We generally don't start to post info or plan in detail until after the Dragon, so as to not confuse anything.

Add yourself to the list if you are coming. We need to get an estimate on numbers to find out cost for lodging. We are looking at renting a chalet for the entire group, which will be much cheaper than the hotel in the past, and offer better accomodation for us.

Well...we are looking at renting out a lodge/chalet, and most of them require 3 nights miniumum. This will be way better for the group and be a lot more fun. So we'd kinda like to have an extra day to relax and enjoy. Are you going to stay with us again Jon? We are trying to secure a place at Silver Star (prices are really good since it is off-season - cheaper than a hotel, and is still pretty close to Vernon).

You could fly in to Calgary / YYC, we'll have a pretty good train. Other options could be Seattle as I think there's a couple people from there, or maybe Vancouver / YVR if some of those guys make it.

Cool. You should!

It's in Vernon, BC. August 9-12.

SLC to Vernon: 17 hours, 971 miles

Or drive SLC to Calgary in 14 hours, then cruise with us to Vernon ~7 hours.

A little more info on the lodging:

We have rented out an entire Chalet, that sleeps up to 28 people. It has a lot of amenities, hot tub, BBQ, 2 kitchens, 8 bathrooms, high end appliances, and lots of space for us and our cars. Depending on # of people, cost will be ~$40-65 / night. (compare that to $110-150 for a crappy hotel room)

I'm REALLY excited about this. :D :D

Yep, if you can get here in the morning of the 9th that would work, otherwise the evening of the 8th.

Fly into Calgary on the 8th (aim for later in the day, someone will pick you up ;) ); I dunno about the other guys, but I'm hoping we're leaving earlier on the 9th to get to Vernon at a decent time this year. :P

There are a ton of us close to the airport, I'm sure you could crash at any of our places.

Glad you can make it this year! Sure you don't want to stay with us at silver star? There will be lots of festivities there especially in the evenings. Cost should be pretty reasonable, just waiting for final numbers.

That's a good idea. We'll be using the same logo as last year, with some new colours for 2012. We can easily do up an invite for members to contribute. :)

Any movement on this yet?

I was wondering if anyone knew a lot about border crossing. My Dad is worried about me having issues taking my car back into the US, since it is RHD. It is a US all-trac though that has matching US vins, is registered and insured in Washington state. I don't think there should be an issue, but I was thinking of printing pictures of the build off to take with me to the show the officer if he does complain. I have tried doing some research and all I can find is info on importing, which is irrelevant since this car was not imported. I feel like with the pictures, registration and insurance they will have no reason to deny it re-entry into the US. I feel like it will be a non issue but that could just be my ignorance with border crossing talking. And I have thought about calling and asking them but wasn't sure where to call exactly. Any info or reassurances would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Jon's is pretty low too. It is paved all the way from what I understand. The one part that may not be paved is from the main resort parking lot to the lodge. Very short distance, so you can go really slow, but might not be paved.

I've sent the owner an email to ask about paving. This is what I can see from google maps.

It's paved all the way up the the main village but there are some bumps and potholes, that said we went up there for Targa Canada West and a lot of very nice cars didn't have any issues ripping up there. I can head up there and make a note of any sketchy spots for you guys ahead of time if you like.

Cool, sounds good. My car can handle short stretchs on dirt if need be. Unavoidable at times, like the parking lot for gokarts, etc.

Hey Chris, you should edit the first post and put all of the details for the meet in it. There is no proper event thread for Ogopogo on this forum. I just read this thread for the first time and had to go through all 6 pages to find what info has beeb posted so far.

And I will be there one way or the other. Possibly in my car with a passenger, or maybe I'll come up with Cam (canadian_pyscho) in his Supra. Not sure yet.

Just to recap the relevant info for the few people who have been sitting on the fence or just found out about this...

Hi All,

I'd like to send a quick reminder that the Run of the Ogopogo 2012 Celica meet is coming up very soon! (August 9-12) For any official updates, make sure to follow this thread on CelicaTech: http://www.celicatech.com/forums/sho...2#post30205702

Any extra funds will either go into food for the weekend or will be refunded.

Looking forward to seeing everyone, I'm really excited for this one!

Chris

And the flyer with all the info in convienent printable form is here...
http://gtfour.ca/Ogopogo2012.pdf

And I did some googling and found the answers to my questions above...

Registration and Technical Inspection
Opens at 8:30 AM
Closes at 9:15AM.
LATE COMERS WILL NOT PARTICIPATE.
Drivers meeting is at 9:30AM - ALL DRIVERS MUST ATTEND.
Driving begins at 10:00AM.
Noise limit is 96db

The rest of the autox details...
http://www.kelownacorvetteclub.com/Club%20Information/Slalom.htm

And a little extra info about autox for first timers. Leave time to walk the course ALOT. Once you get registered, get your course map and get your car teched, spend the rest of the time walking the course till you can navigate it on foot without referencing the map (its actually not that hard ). Walk the course as if you were driving it, from the side of the car you'll be sitting on too, so when you go tearing through it at speed it all looks familar. The idea is to memorize the course and work out the best driving line beforehand, but I'd just worry more about memorizing it if its your first time.

Things you need to do to your car to get it ready for racing and to pass tech:
- If you have slippy floor mats or thick rubber ones that could interfere with the pedals , remove them. They will probably ask you to anyways, but mine stay good so I always leave them in.
- Remove anything thats going to possibly move around while racing. Remember, you're going to see G forces way higher then you ever experince on the street, if its not bolted down, its gonna go flying. Also might as well remove junk from your trunk like jacks and spare tire. Might as well save the weight and anything thats clunking around in the back is going to distract you.
- Battery tie, battery tie down, battery tie down. If you don't have one or the battery isn't tight, you aren't racing. You have no idea how many people I've seen turned away because of this.
- Other things they will check quickly, functional seatbelts (must catch on a hard tug), loose wheels\suspension & your helmet (if you have one). Leave it in the car for tech.
- Oh and be sure to check your tire pressures the day before or that morning. I wouldn't run more then 32ish cold, but generally you'll have your best traction around 30psi warm.

Thats about it. Autox is actually quite easy to do, very affordable and not that hard on your car. And if you've never tried it before, you will be blown away with how fun it is. I encourage you all to try it! I'll be there in a black 86 Supra and I don't mind taking passengers if anyone wants to go for a spin. Most clubs do guided course walks for beginers too, I don't mind giving it a shot if there are none being offered. See you guys on Saturday!

ChrisD

One clarification: the Auto-X organizers have asked that we arrive at 8:00 AM sharp.

I've updated your post with that. :)

Also, here are the directions to the chalet:

Directions: take Silver Star road up the mountain. Once up, after the second ski overpass, turn LEFT onto PINNACLES. Take the next LEFT (Arnica, no street sign yet) and you will go under another ski overpass right away. We are the second house on the LEFT, big red one with brown garage doors. We have the "Silver" and "Pine" units.

Hi All,

I wanted to send out a summary of everything you need to know for this weekend. I hope everyone is as excited as I am! Please forward this to anyone I may have missed.

First, most info can be had in the brochure. Download it here: http://gtfour.ca/Ogopogo2012.pdf

Contact People

Chris (ChrisD) – Black JDM ST205
Calgary, AB
403-519-2406

Aaron (trialsmaster2) – White JDM ST165
Vernon, BC
250-503-8545

Warnings

BC has very strict speeding laws. They will impound your vehicle if caught travelling greater than 20 km/h over the speed limit. Please obey the laws.

Please be mindful of cigarette smoking. The Okanagan is incredibly dry, and is currently at an extremely high risk level for forest fires. If you smoke, we ask that you pay careful attention and use ashtrays while driving and while within the public parks to avoid causing a fire. Also, a full fire ban is in effect for the Okanagan area. There are many active forest fires already in the area, so we must practice extreme due care and attention.

Lodging

We have a lodge booked for the group to stay in, located at the Silver Star ski resort. This is 20-30 minutes outside of Vernon.

Directions to the lodge from Vernon: take Silver Star road up the mountain. Cost is $150 and must be paid before you check-in.

Things to pack

Swimming trunks (we have a hot tub!), sunscreen, lawn chairs, spare parts, tools, walkie talkies 2 way radios, your own helmet, cameras and video recording equipment, and anything else you can think of!

Thursday Events

The Calgary crew should be arriving at the lodge at around 9:00 PM on Thursday. If you will need access before that time, contact me directly.

Calgary crew: we will be meeting at 2:30 at the Husky gas station at 120 Scenic Acres Blvd NW.

Friday Events

There is no formal agenda, however we will be doing some cruises and photo shoots, bombing around the Okanagan and such. If you want to find out where people are at any given time, it is probably best to contact me or someone else listed above.

Saturday Events

Arrive at the Auto-X at 8:00 AM sharp. (Wesbild Centre, 3445 43rd Ave, Vernon BC) If you are late, you will not participate. Cost is $40 at the gate. Noise limit is 96db, and a DOT/Snell approved helmet is mandatory. If you do not have one, they have loaners available. Events should wrap up at 2:00 or so.

We will be grabbing lunch somewhere nearby (Quiznos or other fast foods), and then heading on the cruise. The cruise will be a loop of the very fun Westside Road with a stop at the Kal Lake lookout for pics.

Once done we will head back to the lodge for a BBQ and car show & shine party! More photo ops, and a fun vote for some door prizes for people. Auto-X prizes will be awarded at this time too.

Sunday Events

This is the car show day. We will drop cars off at Polson Park in the morning and go grab some breakfast. Cost is $20 at the gate. People will leave for home as they need to.

See you this weekend!

Chris

The impound speed isn't 20 over, but it's not a very good idea to go much more than 20 over the limit anyways because if you do get impounded it's a hefty fine and a week long impound. I think the total cost depending on how far you are away from the impound lot is around $3000 after the speeding ticket, towing, and storage.

So anyone else buring the midnight oil to get that last mod done before the meet? I should be good to go, the silicone can dry on the trip there lol. You guys will get a kick out of my new mods. You know you've been hanging out with Altrac guys too much when you're hood keeps gaining accessories or holes lol

I'm torn between trying to get my new motor mount inserts in Friday night or not. I think I better, if I'm going to attempt AutoX on Sat.

People have convinced me to not install my downpipe tonight. So I will focus on cleaning and some audio work. (ok they're probably right... :D )

Oh well, car will feel totally different anyway with all new suspension!

No Jon, I'm not making it this weekend. Unfortunately I couldn't get my car to where I was comfortable making the long trip from Regina. I'm also really busy with getting settled into the new house after the move.

Yes I plan to attend in future years. I will get my car all good this winter in my new garage. When August hits next year it will be ready to go!

Hey underscore, ChrisD left your 2012 Run Of The Ogopogo T-shirt at my place, since I live a bit closer to you than Calgary. We'll have to arrange a meet up to get your shirt sometime.
