View Full Version : FOUND: Yakima Rack Wind Fairings!

Before my days on CTech, I had fabricated a set of Yakima roof rack wind fairings because the available fairing was too tall and hideous to match the low, sexy curves of the 5th generation Celica.

I created a few different styles and had a couple large sheets of acrylic laser cut and etched for the fairings. The etched brands can be easily stenciled as I chose to spray paint the clear plastic from behind. This way, you can abuse the hell out of the fairing, and still never touch the paint.

My preferred custom design.

I destroyed my fairing in California when I dropped a brake rotor on it, shattering it into 3 pieces. I thought I'd just have to live fairing free until I had access to a laser cutter again. Then this happened...

I spent the night in my old apartment in Cincinnati. My old roommate showed me a couple things I had left in the basement. My kevlar folding bike tires, a GM 4cyl head, a box full of painting supplies and a dozen wind fairings.

As you can see, a few are finished, and many are still waiting to be painted. Looks like it's time to finish the set and offer them up those of you on CTech (ToyotaNation fools rejected wanting them).

The very bottom one is Yakima's option. It's both too wide, and ungainly tall to be of use on the curved roof of a Celica. My preferred style is the finished one on the top with both "Yakima" and "Celica" blazoned across.

I never finished the "Toyota" design, but after I'm done, I should have a nice set of examples.

My plan is to get them all cleaned up and available in time for the Dragon. I have a dragon decal I am working on that can be applied to the finished product as well. All that would be needed is, of course, a roof rack and the hardware kit. Yakima and a number of their vendors carry a spare parts kit ($22) with 3 arms and pads needed to secure the shield in place.

Sorry, been a crazy week! Just got my garage cleaned out so I can focus on a few projects of mine that need attention, including this one.

They're painted custom designed lasercut acrylic wind fairings. I was thinking $50 plus whatever it is to ship so if you needed the additional mounting hardware, you could get it separately and the total cost would come out to what a complete Yakima fairing would be.

Let me get a few cleaned up and finished this week, and you could have first pick of whatever you wanted.

You could use this with 4 supports, it's totally up to you. I just went with 3 because its narrow, and I didn't feel the use. I'll likely use 4 when I reinstall it.

I'll get the Yakima-Celica one made up for ya and post it.

Would you be willing to sell just a blank one? unfinished, i'd be interested... doesn't even have to have a logo on it.

Closest would be a clear one, they all have something etched in.
