anyone try one of these? Right now i have the alpine 4ohm 10" type-e sub and i like it but i want more bass. I just got my new infinity kappa five amp and if i switch to a 2ohm sub ill get another 100rms from my sub channel. My friend can sell me a new one for $70 so Im intrested. I see good reviews on it but i would like to hear from people that i know are not getting paid to post reviews ;) thanks guys

Eh, you can get better for cheaper. Type-R's aren't all that great.

Depends...Can the friend you have sell you anything else at a discounted price, or he just has the Type-R?

I'm not much of an ebay person, so maybe Matt (CollapsedNut) can help you find some deals. In its original price range, since the Type-R normally goes for about $200+, there are definitely better speakers out there. Alpine used to be decent back in the day, but I'm not sure their new stuff has the same quality. Their sensitivity rating sucks, and is probably the lower end of the spectrum in today's market. I love my Eclipse SW7200, but it is a discontinued item. Infinity Kappas are also nice speakers.

There are definitely a lot of options out there, so you need to know what's most important to you: sound quality, loudness, price, etc. And again, does your friend have access to get you a discount on other subwoofers, or he just has the Type-R, and he's selling it to you cheap?

Im not a know all of car audio, all I know is this: Most people buy a speaker that they can never use to its full potential. Unless tuned by a pro with the right tools, it doesnt matter if you have a $40 speaker or a $300 speaker. If you buy that type-r, and you buy a Infinity Reference (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_18573_Infinity-Reference-1060W.html) you will not notice the differance between the two.

If your looking for a good speaker, for none competition use, Orion XTRPRO104 (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_20885_Orion-XTRPRO104.html) Is one of my favorite. I've put 3 of them in for friends and they allways sound so good. Also http://www.sonicelectronix.com is awesome. Great customer service.
